Question about Kenmore 62602 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Runs for a few min then trips one of the 2 breakers. to make sure it was not the breakers,i switched the hot leads in the plug, and just as i thought the other breaker then tripped. so i assume the problem is in the machine. drum spins, heat is there and air does come out of the vent but dryer will trip one breaker after a few min.

My TB 302 cranks and runs at high idle does not idle down. I have power at all recepticals but no power at welding leads. I have checked all breakers and fuses, they are ok. what do I need to do next

there are a few things you can check on your machine,
make sure your machine is not in the remote control position, make your process switch is in the electrode hot position, the trailblazer has three slip rings, make sure the carbon brushes are not "stuck" in the holders, there are 2 circuit boards in your machine, make sure the plugs are properly inserted into the receptacles and making good contact, also make sure your ignition switch plug is clean and making good contact

Dryer trips breaker after only a few mins of operation

Check to power at outlet for 220 volts

Check the breaker for the correct amperage cut off.

If the unit had an obstruction in the air flow, it would not trip the breaker.

Try running the unit with just cool air and see if it trips the breaker.

Odds are, you have a defective breaker.
Also, if the home is newly built, check the panel for loose connections at the breaker.
Or you could try a different power outlet, like the hot water heater.

If the unit continues to trip breakers on other outlets, you may have a short in unit.

Why is the gfci tripping on my hot tub after being on for 30 min. After resetting the breaker after the 30 min. run, it trips immediately!!!

Hi,
You will want to make sure that all of your spa equipment is functioning properly. It is best for a spa technician or electrician to determine this issue.
It is likely that a particular piece of equipment is turning on around the 30 min time frame and causing the breaker to trip. Pump, ozonator or similar. Also check the heater element, a pin sized hole in the element will cause it to fail. Lastly your spas breaker itself could be bad.
Good luck!

Disconnect both hot leads from the breaker at the box. Using an ohmmeter measure the resistance to ground or the neutral bar in your box. If the resistance is LESS than about 50 K you have excessive leakage current. It is unlikely the motor is the problem. I would check the wiring and switching for the leakage. Now to the second problem: If you switch between speeds while the unit is running, the GFI will LIKELY trip. This is normal as you create a massive transient that the GFI PROBABLY can't handle. There are a couple things to try: One is using a two pole control switch and turn off the pump before "switching gears" ... as an electrical engineer I can't explain this unless you can understand electrical transients AND capacitive coupling between the windings and the case of the motor. I realize you may have a combination speed and on off switch so you MIGHT have to add a switch. Ideally I would want a relay for on/off near the breaker that momentarily disconnected before shifting gears. The next fix possibility involves a trick we use to control transients in electronics. This involves noise control by using a toroid around the pair of hot wires. This MIGHT take several turns through a good sized ferrite toroid with both the hots in the same direction, side by side. This forms what we call a "Bi-Filar" choke. Look that up on Google to understand the principle... it essentially helps balance the currents in the hots and isolates them from ground for transients.

Have just installed a 1P 20-QOB shunt trip breaker in the panel. Landed the 120 v circuit back on the breaker ...have a hot(common) from the relay and a return leg ....just not sure if i put the common...

Treat the shunt trip as if it were a switch. The neutral (usually white wire) on the shunt trip connects to the neutral busbar. The other (usually black) wire is the "switched leg", so to speak. The hot that goes out to the relay comes off a _separate_ breaker. The return from the relay connects to the black "switched leg" on the shunt tip. Most shunt trips have 2 wires coming off the shunt trip, a white and a black. If your breaker has contacts instead of wires coming off the shunt trip, the concept is still the same.

It may also trip the breaker on shore power . good luck! the part you are looking for is a 1/3 hp 115vac 2 speed 1580/1020 rpm part number #1468-3069

My roper electric dryer heats when running for 5 mins. then trips circuit breaker

May not be your dryer. Many times a loose wire at the circuit breaker panel will cause the breaker to get hot and then thermal trip the breaker. It may be worth a look. Remove circuit breaker panel. Turn dryer breaker off. Check wire lug screws for being loose. Make sure screws or snug but do not tighten and strip the threads. Be especially careful if the wire/cable is silvery aluminum colored. If that is the case make sure there are not any broken strands at the breaker lugs. If possible use a clamp on amp meter to check the operating current. The current should not exceed 80 percent of your breaker rating. It is most likely a 30 Amp 2 pole. You may also have a bad breaker. If a breaker has a weak spring or bad contacts it will easily get hot under load and trip. My best guess other than a dryer motor locking up or dragging. New breakers are inexpensive at HD or Lowes etc. Be sure to get the exact brand and model if replacing.

Intermittent breaker tripping

Have your installer check your wire connections first. These use a lot of power in turn the connections get hot leading to oxzidation leading to more heat...A vicous cycle. Other than that 40a sounds a little light depending on elect run and load on heater.

Unit shuts off on hot days

It may be low on refrigerant. On hotter days, the compressor has to run longer to reach the temperature you have on your thermostat. Have it checked for the proper refrigerant charge and have them test how many amps that the compressor is pulluig as well. With the proper breaker installed, the unit should not be tripping out. Make sure that the breaker that is in there now is actually the proper one for your unit.
