I have a Powershot 560. I dropped it and although it still works, the display is all black but I can see the settings on the edge of the display window.. If I press the reveiw button, the display will show previously taken pictures. Was something damaged when it was dropped, if so, is it worth it to replace it or purchase a new camera?

Dear Edgar:

It indeed sounds as if your CCD image sensor has gone out. If you call Canon (1-800-828-4040) you can have it repaired at the Factoyr Service Center for somewhere in the neighborhood of between $79 and $99, I believe.

You may also qualify for their upgrade program wherein you can get a refurbished, upgraded model camera, for approximately the same price as the repair. That way you will have a higher model camera , which comes with a complete camera kit, you get to keep you old accessories, and you will have another 6 months worth of warranty, which the upgraded camera carries. All in all it's usually a pretty good deal. Call them and see what's available.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

No image is captured by the screen itself (LCD screen works but completely dark).

Did you try pressing the display button several times? in both viewing mode and record mode? Cycle through all display modes, s you get used to the button, so it does not trow you off when it happens again.

Yes it is a design flaw, basically what happend is the image interpereter and preprocessor are shot.. The integrated method of the design leaves the irrepirable.. I dont use canon products except for printers and scanners when it comes to camera's i use Hp or Pioneer, Consumer support suggested a new camera cause they know where they messed up

Canon power shot sd1000 black dot on lens

If by saying the upper right corner of the lens you really mean that there is a dark spot on each image AND the rear display, there may be dirt or dust on the lens itself. Clean the lens with an optical quality cleaner. Do not use paper towels and Windex or the like - as paper towels can scratch the lens.

It is also possible that the dark spot is a "stuck pixel" on the image sensor inside the camera. There is no way to repair a stuck pixel outside of replacing the sensor. Any dark spot (regardless of source) can be edited out by using image editing software. This will allow you to to make the dark spot less noticeable - or practically invisible.

If the dark spot is on the rear display only, it can also be a result of a "stuck pixel" on the display itself. This should not show up an images, but only on the display. There is little that can be done outside of replacing the entire rear screen.

There are other things that can cause these problems, but those listed above are the most common.

I hope this was Very Helpful and good luck!

Use a memory card and memory card reader. If the images come out black you have a bad CCD in your camera.
