Question about E-Machines eMachines T3830 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Desktop E-Machine in suspended mode.

HI SILLY GIRL,
GOOD ARTICLE,
YOUR NOT AS SILLY AS YOU ARE SMART.
I CAME ACROSS THE SAME SITUATION A WHILE BACK WITH MY
HOME MADE DESKTOP. IT WAS IN A STATE OF BEING SUSPENDED,
BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THAT WAS, WHICH MAKES PERFECT SENSE TO ME NOW. FOR AFTER I SEND MY GIGABYTE MOBO IN FOR REPAIR, TO WHICH THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG.
I PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, AND "WOW LA" I WAS BACK UP AND RUNNING.

I'D LIKE TO ASK YOUR OPINION, IF IT'S NOT TO PUSHY.
I'D APPRECIATE ANYTHING YOU MAY HAVE TO TELL ME.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME IN READING THIS.

WELL NOW, I FOUND A VERY NEW GATEWAY GT 5228, THAT THIS GUY HAD THROWN AWAY, AND I UNPLUGGED EVERYTHING, AND A FEW HOURS WENT BY AS I WAS WORKING ON ANOTHER PC. SO I PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, AND IT BOOTED RIGHT UP.
I MADE MYSELF THE ADMINISTRATOR, AND THEN WENT INTO THE BIO'S AND LOOKED AROUND, AND IN THE BOOT ORDER, I MADE REMOVABLES 1st BOOT, FOLLOWED BY CD, THEN HDD, AND THEN DECIDED NOT TO MAKE THE CHANGES, BUT OUT OF HABIT, I HIT THE F10, WHICH KEPT THE CHANGES, AND IT GOT HUNG UP ON THE REBOOT. SO AFTER ABOUT 10 MIN'S I JUST SHUT IT OFF.
SO NOW I'M AT THE BEGINNING AGAIN. SO LAST NIGHT I DISCONNECTED EVERYTHING, AND REMOVED THE CMOS BATTERY, AND SHORTED IT OUT.
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES THE MEMORY MODULES TO LOSE THEIR STORED MEMORY, AND IS THERE A FASTER WAY TO DISCHARGE THE MEMORY MODULES OF THEIR MEMORY, OR DOES IT CLEAR THE PC'S MEMORY, THE MINUTE YOU REMOVE THEM?

THANKS AGAIN, FOR ANYTHING YOU MAY HAVE TO TELL ME.
SINCERELY,
TOM

How to Use Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate Modes for my Laptop?

Shutdown is safer, close all program.
Hibernate is good for long period (e.g. stop during the night). All the data will be saved on the HD.
Suspend is similar to Hibernate mode, but data are copied to the RAM, so if you aren't conneted wtih power cable and battery goin to 0%, you will lost your work that aren't saved.

Windows xp sleep suspend hibernate

make sure the cables have not come loose, then turn the monitor off then back on, if that doesn't work is where the fun starts. boot up to safe mode with networking. If that loads up and the screen is still black then either your monitor or video card need replaced. Hook up a different monitor if that works it is naturally your monitor, if not then it is your video card. Unless you are into high end graphics design, gaming, or hooking up to a flat screen tv, they are not too too expensive and can be swapped out in a matter of minutes

A few problems with my dell 9150. 1 Windows boots up but screen shows garbled then turns black and monitor into power save mode. I tried a complete system recovery, still the same.

I would try starting up in VGA mode (tap F8 at the splash screen and choose VGA mode from the menu)

VGA mode will load very few drivers and a generic video driver into Windows. From there you may be able to go to a website and download the latest (or even rolled back) drivers. Or you can uninstall and reinstall the drivers from the Device Manager (in the control panel)

My pc monitor is showing a box say dmps suspend status

The DPMS standard (Display Power Management Signaling) was developed to extend the useful life of PC monitors as well as to conserve the relatively high amount of energy used by monitors when not required.

In brief terms it works as follows.

The DPMS compliant video controller and the DPMS compliant monitor use the Horizontal sync and Vertical sync signals to control the power mode of the monitor. Because there are 2 signal lines, it allows 4 modes of operation. Normal, Standby, Suspend and Off.

Go to your power management source located in the control panel and make the needed adjustments.

Windows Vista doesn't shut down the machine by default when you press the power button. Additionally, if you look at the bottom of the start menu you'll see this:

6fe475d.jpg

The button on the left, highlighted here in bronze, does NOT turn the machine off in Windows - it suspends it, which requires power. When the battery runs down, the power goes out and you get this message the next time you start up.

Some laptops also indicate suspend mode by flashing the power light.

Happily, if you click on the little right facing arrow a menu pops up, one of the options of which is "Shut down" and this will bring Windows down properly and fully.

You can also change the function of the power switch (which defaults to suspend, NOT shut down) by going into the power options from Control Panel:

Selecting one of the above options will allow you to set the power button and closing the lid to turn the machine off fully, not suspend it.

Cannot get out of running windows normally

You didn't loose you work, windows only got corrupted as what often happens. Start up into safe mode, then run "scan disk" and select fix errors automatically, it might take a while to run. Maybe with a little luck it might find some errors and fix it.
Worst case situation - put the hard drive in another computer that boots in order to back up work, then put it back in your machine and buy a copy of windows xp. Then install drivers from Acer's website. (might have to use a jump drive with another machine to install first network drivers on your machine)
Hope this helps maybe a bit......
