I think those plastic hinges are removable ..just lift the lid up in a 90 degrees angle with the printer face ..and try to insert them both in the same time ..it has a snap in kinda action ...and after that close it ..

I dont have a picture at the moment but if you lift the document feeder up to expose the large plate glass, the small plate glass is normally situated at the extreme left hand side of the large plate glass.

Interior bulb went out , and it's an over the counter mount. How do I get to the bulb ?

Remove the top grill cover by gently pulling out on it and down on the right side. Remove the filter that is in the middle. Look at the metal cover, push back on the plastic tab and pull the metal clip toward you. You can now gently lift the cover off expsing the lightbulb and replace it. Simple and easy, no tools needed.

Keep getting a "check original" message on screen - won't fax or copy

the check original relaates to the document you are trying to copy or fax check the guides for the document input and check you are putting teh doc in far enough yuoo can also lift the cover and check there isnt any obstruction .. basically the sensor that lets the machine know you have a doc on the go isnt getting actuated to start the process..try and put a thick piece of card in the doc feed part to see if it goes through it might push through the obstruction

I put a new black ink into my printer it seemed alright, then when I went to print a document it made a strange noise and the green light went out and the red light went back on. I have tried pressing the...

the cover over the cartridge was not closed properly is my guess - was the noise like a grinding sound? - if so, it was the toothed drive belt jumping teeth on the drive roller.

Turn off power to the printer and GENTLY pull the cartridge carriage back t the center using the drive belt. Next remove and re-insert the cartridges and make sure the cartridge cover is down and locked.

Hi there,

Have you try to print with other tray also. Is it fine.

Your printer need cleaning of the roller, just open the cover and try to clean all the dust and ink.

Error msg..."close ADF cover". Where is it?

Adf : auto doc feeder

the top that you put the pappers in to copy mare than one sheet.
make sure all doors are closed.

lift doc feederas if making copy on glass look where the hinges are there should be a plunger next to one of them, that is the switch to tell it if it's open or flat. try pressing it down to see if message goes away, it may need adjusting.

Brother MFC 8420-- hinge?

i went to Brother site and opened support.
searched for parts and got a listing of technical support shops in my area. called the first one listed and asked if they had the LP2403001 hinge in stock and they came back with an affirmative answer. will pick it up this afternoon locally.
You can see an image of the hinge assembly at ebay if you search for LP2403001.

Doc cover open

Yes there is and I know your problem have a look at the left hinge on lid that you lift to put down an original for copying, it will be breaking apart, the switch is black in that same corner on doc feeder base, as the hinge breaks apart the doc feed lifts in that corner causing "doc cover open" cause that switch no longer gets pushed in when lid is shut

Dodgy repair - tape switch closed, but doc feeder will not work properly/can use glass.

Repair - Easy removal of three screws and replacing 20buck hinge bought from brother dealer...part no.LE8731001 Hinge assy left.

Now that's FIXYA!
