Hook up question

just purchased unit. the only thing i am hooking to it is a xbox 360 and a ps3.
both are optical only. i am using hdmi for the video which goes straight to the tv. the problem i have i no sound what so ever. im not quite sure what the setup has to be etc. but any insight to a simple hook up would be appreciated.
