How to turn on wireless switch on a desktop

I've never seen a 'switch' on a desktop to turn-on wireless, like there are on Laptops/Notebooks.

Usually it is either a device that is install in a slot in the PC, or it is a USB plug-in adapter. There ARE some motherboards with built-in Wireless ability, those can be turned-On/Off in the BIOS.

You would have to have a Wireless Router/Wireless Access Point in place already, it would need to be setup and security enabled.

Then it would be a matter of installing the driver for the device....WHEN you do that depends on the type of adapter you have:

add-on slot adapter -- Install adapter, then driver software
USB -- install driver software, DO NOT plug-in adapter until directed to do so, or the driver installation finishes.

Won't install on computer

Make sure driver software is installed before ever connecting the wireless adapter. You may need to do a complete uninstall and start over. Or, your PC is not compatible with the adapter. More info would be needed.

My installation is stuck at 30%

  • Hey, Have to also make sure the wireless adapter is not plugged while installing (only when prompted to plug it in)
  • You can try downloading a NEW installer from the Linksys website. (maybe the cd is scratched?...) Here is a link to the Driver/installer, for your adapter. (This is a WindowsXP Driver)
  • Try installing the driver using that, and then plug in your wireless adapter when the setup program prompts for you to do so.
Report back if there are any more complications or issues that occur during the above process,

I'll be happy to assist you further.
I Hope This Helps.

Dell 1450 wireless adapter

Yes, the driver can be corrupted and you need to reload the driver or better download the latest one and use that instead to make sure your adapter is using the right software for it...

Hope that helps... Don't forget to rate the solution FIXYA thank you

No association with access point

Another thing to check, (especially if you have installed SP2 in the midst of this process of trying to get the Linksys WPC54G drivers  installed).
In Device Manager, check under the "network adapters" category and see if there's any "other" things with a yellow question mark - I clicked one of those, had it search for the new driver, and after a few minutes it eventually installed a WPC54G driver and placed it in the "Network Adapters" category (I had already run the drivers install from Linksys, Broadcom, many times over - de-installing each time to try another version).
Funny thing about it, when I hit "update" or whatever on that yellow question mark icon - it had given me no clue whatsoever that it was a wireless adapter driver that it was updating.
Hope this helps.
