Computer makes a whining noise

most likely the fan in your power supply ... might be an auxiliary fan ... could be your hard drive.

In any event ... get yourself a good back up now in the unlikely event it is your hard drive.

Help, I open the case on my Dell Dimension 8300 to gently blow the dust out (hand held bellows). When I closed it and rebooted I get a message saying 'can't find the primary drive'. The drive is IEE. I...

You suppoed to use a can of compressed treated air as this could have done some damage.

1. Check the primary drive cable make sure it did not come un-loose?
2 is the drive spinning up

You might have damaged the system it would be hard to tell and yes anything but treated air that is not recommended for computer nor eletonics can carry static eletricy and can kill compnets.

thanks

I BOUGHT CHEAP RAM, EBAY, DELL DIMENSION 8300 HUMMING

This system supports ECC and non-ECC Rambus modules. ECC and non-ECC modules can be mixed but ECC feature will be disabled. Modules must be installed in pairs. multiple modules - PC800 the max is 2 GBs
systems tool...run disc clean up...put a check mark in every box, you don' need anything there as it is all copies you have elsewhere...
then defraggment also in system tools.
If you really feel like making that ole girl hum, do a complete reinstall using the latest drivers from the dell site. If you use your service tag number it will select the better drivers for your application.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
go to this page for drivers (above) select your operating system (2000-ME-XP-Vista).
hope this helps you. Please leave rating

What is setting the pc back to factory settings mean?

2 WAYS

Restore default factory settings in setup - Only recover the seetings of your motherboard (date and time, pc health, etc)

Restore Software factory defaults - All hard drive is reinstalled, original software of Dell. Programs like MS Office, all of your data have to be reinserted in the computer.

I didnt understand the "over the phone".

See ya
