I disconnected the router when I moved and now I also have a new Mac computer. I plugged the router into the printer, but my Mac does not know it is there. Do I have to download software into my new Mac?

Install the printer as a networked printer and make sure the Mac is printing to the IP address of the print server.

My Epson Label printer is showing as not connected when its connected, when trying to set up or add as new printer.

What shows mac and ip address ? printer or pc ?
If the printer displays them, it means the printer in connected to router electrically.
Check subnet mask and gateway address.
Could be set wrong if the router is not on DHCP.

I guess the issue is in the ethernet components / settings.
Start isolation by elimination of the following
1. Computer -
2. Wifi connection to the router (or)
3. Patch cable connecting computer to the wall -
4. Router -
5. Patch cable connecting the printer to the wall -
6. Printer -

The LAN printer cannot connect to Computer (PC/Mac) directly unless you use a Cross over cable.

Can not connect to the internet through router if i hook up the internet straight to computer it works but when i try through the router the computer has no internet connection but it picks up the router

Some cable modems look for the MAC address of the computer until reset. You can either enter the MAC address from the PC into the MAC spoofing setting on the router OR disconnect and unplug the cable modem for 24 hours and start over. First, plug in the cable modem and connect the cable. 2nd, plug the router cable into the modem and router and plug in the router's power supply. Then connect the computer and it should work fine.

I want to set up my new HP PHOTOSMART eSTATION C510 series Printer. Where I bought my printer said I would need a router. So I bought a new CISCO linksys E1000. When I got home and started to get...

. The printer's instruction guide should show you how to set the printer's IP address ?
it has to be in the range of what the modem / router you already have is.
If set to auto ip address on the printer
The existing modem / router would have a DCHP server most likely you could log into this router and look sat the ip leases and when it allocates a lease to the printer you set it as Static or permanent lease. There would be an ethernet port on the back of the router to plug in your printer to.
If manual setup then log into router / modem and set the dchp leases to start above 10 . it would be xx.xx.xx.1 to xx.xx.xx.254 just change it to xx.xx.xx.10 to xx.xx.xx.254 and xx means whatever it is set to for its network address. eg 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.254 . Set the printer to ip address to eg 10.0.0.9

On your MAC you may need to download and install a printer driver .
Mac is very clever and may set up the printer once you do this automatically by detecting the printer and setting it up in the MAC

If it is a wi fi printer you need to know the encryption settings by logging into the wi fi router and then set this up on the printer ?

How do i add the mac address of my printer to the list of permitted devices

Disconnect the Ethernet cable between the router and the cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Access the web-interface inside the router.
Allow "all" MAC-addresses to access the router.
Turn the printer off.
Turn the printer on, so that it gets a "fresh" IP-address from the router.
On the router's web-interface, get it to show a list of the "active" DHCP-connections.
It should show the IP-address and MAC-address for your printer.
Copy that MAC-address, and the MAC-address of your computer.
On the router's web-interface, access the table of "allowable" MAC-addresses.
Add the two MAC-addresses.
Enable the "selected MAC-addresses only" option.
Reconnect the Ethernet cable.

I disconnected my printer from my computer and moved it accross the room to a different location and plug everything back in a nd now it is not recognizing the printer

Forgot to ask if you were MAC or PC based. If MAC you may have to remove it from your printer list and add it again.
PC make sure your router is recognized. It should then pick up the printer.

I have the same problem too

Try this procedure:

To Spoof a MAC Address
  1. Connect the computer that your ISP's installers used to establish Internet connection to the router. If you are unsure which computer was used, call your ISP, and ask what MAC address was registered. Then, using the instructions in the box below find the computer whose MAC address matches their records.
  2. Disconnect other computers from the router.
  3. (If you do not want to disconnect other computers, you need to know the adapter's MAC address, as described in the box below. Then, in step 6, type Use This MAC Address, entering the adapter's address.)
  4. In an Internet browser type the address 192.168.0.1.
  5. Type admin for the username, password for the password, and click OK.
  6. Go to the Basic Settings > Router Mac Address.
  7. Select Use Computer MAC Address.
  8. Click Apply. This automatically gives the router the computer's MAC address.
  9. Click Test to make sure you are connected. If you are not connected, contact your ISP.

Can't print from my mac to my canon mp980 wireless printer

Sounds like when you added xp you inadvertently installed new print driver on server.
Try rolling back driver. But may drop xp from printing.

Best solution network printer to router bypass server. Will require hard wire from printer to router. disconnect from server may need network card for printer.

Only printing when I disconnect the USB cable

VERY INTERESTING! lol. Not a Lot i know to try, But just re install the printer, I know on most HP Printers they require the printer to be unplugged while installing, But on Mac i hear they automatically install, So it HAS to be plugged in... just delete the printer driver and try to reinstall. Hope this helps!

No Internet With New Router, Computer, or Adapter

This document is relevant if you had an Internet connection, but lost it when: * Adding a router to your network, or * Using a different Ethernet adapter card or computer than the one your ISP used during installation. Use ISP Configuration to see whether you need to "spoof a MAC address" to connect to your ISP. If so, follow the instructions in this document. If the Ethernet card that was used during ISP installation is not available, you may need to register the new Ethernet card's MAC address with your ISP for the following to work. MAC address stands for Media Access Control address (not "Macintosh computer"!), a unique number built into modems, routers and other network hardware. It ensures that one piece of equipment is not mistaken for another one. Some ISPs validate your connection by checking the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter in computer that was registered during ISP installation. If you add a router or change computer or Ethernet adapter, these ISPs will drop your Internet connection, because they find the MAC address of the newly added router or adapter, instead of the one they expect. To fix this, change the router to report the Ethernet adapter's MAC, instead of its own. This is called "spoofing the MAC address". To find a PC's or Macintosh's MAC address, see How to Find an Adapter's MAC address : http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=252225&thid=102075. To Spoof a MAC Address 1. (If you do not want to disconnect other computers, you need to know the adapter's MAC address, as described in the box below. Then, in step 6, type Use This MAC Address, entering the adapter's address.) 3. In an Internet browser type the address 192.168.0.1. 4. Type admin for the username, password for the password, and click OK. 5. Go to the Basic Settings > Router Mac Address. 6. Select Use Computer MAC Address. 7. Click Apply. This automatically gives the router the computer's MAC address. 8. Click Test to make sure you are connected. If you are not connected, contact your ISP.
