The monitor (Gateway FPD1975W) turns itself off after a couple of seconds. I have tried rebooting a number of times - same problem. When I turn the monitor off and then on again it works for a second or two, then goes blank again. Just prior to this problem it was working OK, but not as bright as before. I am now using an old NEC monitor, and that works fine.

This sounds like the monitors power supply is failing. (if the monitor is truly right off) Use a flashlight to verify the back-light is not just the culprit. If you can see faint image in the monitor with the flashlight, then this would point tothe LCD inverter is failing. Its most likely the power supply board within the monitor itself. Typically It takes 3 35v 470uf capacitors to fix and a little patience to get apart. Do a bit of googling on "replacing the caps in a FPD1975W" and youll see what i mean. Cheers.

When connect ps3 to monitor it turns on then goes black then on and off

If you try the monitor elsewhere and still does that, there are chances that the hight voltage work for few seconde then stop.

Most monitor experience this with age, I use to open the monitor and look for condenser that have the top carved, not flat anymore.

this mean that the condenser dry and made internal gaz.
Those should be all replaced. 2 time over 3 it does fix this issue.

then if you try you monitor on a computer and it does work correctly, then it would be the PS3 , I suggest trying to unplug the PS3 for a 30 sec then try rebooting it. (did happend to me once)

My gateway fpd1975w monitor will no longer turn on. The first couple of times, I unplugged the power supply to the monitor and then plugged it back in after 1-2 minutes and the monitor worked fine. Now...

The power supply may have finally died, I would inspect it for bad DC filter caps with leaking/bulging top/bottm seals first, then check for cold solder joints, burnt parts.

Fuzzy screen on Gateway FPD1975W TFT LCD Monitor

With the pixels acting up and the monitor having the same problem on any computer that its connected to. The screen itself is bad and since there are no replacement screens for that monitor, you would have to buy a new monitor or get it replaced if its under warranty.

Gateway monitor FPD1975W won't display

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

Gateway FPD1975W Makes Trickling Sound and Goes Off

I have repaired similar FPD models. I have one of them on this very desk.
The GatewayFPD models develop problems after a couple or more years of use. Therepairs are fairly easy for the savvy technician. The power inverterboard in the back of the monitor contains some capacitors, they may be470 and 220 mfd or 680 mfd depending on when they were made, @ 10 16 or 25volts, with a 105 deg. C temp rating. They go bad due to heat issuesand the currents they have to filter. Replacement of the capacitorsusually restores operation. Use capacitorss of the same ratings as original for replacement.

Be advised, turning the monitor off when you are not using it will extend the life between these repairs.

Hope you find this helpful.

The FPD1975w

Replacing the lcd screen more than likely. Problem in the PCB thats built onto the lcd itself.
They are rather inexpensive these days to replace. I would just buy a new one. Check warranties offered before buying, some manufacturers offer 3 years. ;)
