The first step that should be taken is to shut down the laptop. This can most likely be done by holding the power butting down for 10-15 seconds. The next step is to restart the PC and see what happens. If it boots up correctly than this have have been just a one time issue. If after restarting the laptop it will not boot than some trouble shooting steps should be taken. When starting the PC your getting power? If not than there is an issue with the power supply or battery. If you are getting power to the PC than you should listen for the beep code on start up. 1 beep after starting the computer signifys that the power on self test (Also known as the POST) has completed with out issue. When getting any other type of beep code you should research the meaning of the code. Beep codes differ from company to company. The best way to identify the meaning of a beep code is to type the manufacture, model and number of beeps into Google. Another possible issue is that your hard drive is corrupt. If this is the case than your computer will pass the power on self test(POST) but will have a message like MBR not found or one of many other errors. If you are getting an error than it is also a good idea to research the error to determine the proper fix. If the PC seems to boot correctly but there is no image on the screen than the issue may be a result of a bad video card. In that case the video card will need to be replaced.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.

Hp blue light on ac plug is on, when power button is pushed lights come on for a second then nothing, tried removing battery and pressing power button for 40 seconds, no response. Is the mother board bad?

Im afraid that is a motherboard failure. A few months ago I had one in for repair with the same symptoms. Tried reflowing the graphic chip, nothing Tried reflowing the FSB controller chip, nothing. Tested power module for bad capacitors, nothing.
You could do the same steps I did, maybe you get lucky.

System froze - can not print or set to fax

Does anything at all appear on the control panel?  Is it possible that it tried to print the report and then jammed?  Does it give you the normal beeping error sound at all or just not respond to buttons?

Are you able to do press the number of copies or any other buttons working?
