This is not uncommon if it has been stored in damp conditions. In fact it is common in electronics. It can be "dried out" using a
household electric fan heater and spraying all the control pots with pot wiper cleaner....WORTH A TRY. I know these radios,
they can be a real beast (polite way of saying (*******)
Cheers flyingfox@people.net.au

PS> Don't place it to close to the heater, at least 30 cm <

Sounds like you could have a bad soilder joint in the radio. If you hit the top or bottom of the radio does it help? If so its soilder. You match your antenna to your truck not the radio. You might want to recheck it.

It is possible the audio amp has failed. If I remember this radio it uses two push pull transistors for the audio amp. Check the mic connector as it may have a broken wire and that can cause a disconnection both ways. Lastly the radio uses a relay to switch from receive to transmit and the contacts can get dirty with age and this rig is getting old! This relay can be cleaned but use the striking surface from a book of matches as the points are silver or an alloy a palladium and can be damaged if cleaned improperly.

Not sure how to use the swr meter on my cobra nw

The SWR meter connect between your antenna and your rig,
So the Out of the rig, goes into the SWR meter, and the antenna plugs into the SWR meter.

Hello there My cobra 29 ltd just went dead what do i need to do to fix it i am not real good with these radios best regards righard

Hello there
If you remove the screws that hold the top cover on
and remove the cover look by the front of the unit and you will see a small inline glass fuse (50x250) .
simply remove this fuse and replace it with a new one
also check all of the other fuses that is going to the power cord too ok
I hope that this has helped you out a lot
best regards michael

Cobra 148gtldx low vol squelch on fm

Hi Mate, the problem you are having in not uncommon in the
COBERA 148 GTL. I suspect that the problem lies in low value uF electro caps drying out (electrolite) causing power down and frequency drift. The capacitors are in two forms..tiny blue tantalum, and standard radial base caps that are grey aluminium
cans with a black stripe,it would be a job for a skilled person in electronics to replace all of them. The square metal cans with a screw ferrite slug are what you use to tune the radio, and as there are lot of them ,and you don't have a circuit diagram ,it would be pot luck finding the right one/s. What you realy need to know is all electronic devices age and hence, no longer do their job.
it would cost more than the set is worth to rebuild it,but if you have the skills ,it can be done. am cb with usb / lsb are a thing of the past now and you would be better off buying a used set that is still in top working order. The uhf sets are useless as was the am sets depending on what you want the sets to do, in convoy.... great....in remote country....useless. Having said that the am/usb/lsb sets are the best of the three because on ssb they tx on about 12 watts rms so you have a better chance of making contact, but don't count on it as hf cb is no longer in
common use.
GOOD LUCK flyingfox@people.net.au

Cobra CB Radio 148 NW ST

The first thing to do is to check if your power wire actually has power to it. Do this with a test light or a multimeter. Given that the wire is powered, check to make sure your ground is good. Modern cars have so much plastic in them that grounds may be hard to find. The next step is to check the rig's fuse. Make sure the microphone is plugged in, too. If none of this helps, your radio needs repair or replacement.
