Question about X2Gen Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My X2GEN MW22U had white screen after computer coming from standby for several weeks (power cycle reset it to normal work) and now the screen is blank. I checked the power supply - it is working OK. Looks like this is either invertor or backlight - how to tell what exactly? What should be an output of the working invertor. I have multimeter and oscilloscope to troubleshoot.

I am way beyond this point - I testet it with 3 computers and alone and made sure that this is not a power supply issue by connecting to a lab power supply (it consumes only 65 mA at 12 V when switched on). What I need is a phote of the interior with the instruction how to get to the inverter, what to control on the inverter output and which parts to replace (I believe there are 2 or 3 capacitors most likely to fail)

I have seen specific recommendations on this web site how to fix the inverter. I do not want to pay $50 for the new inverter instead of replacing couple parts worth $5.

I'm thinking you have a slightly faulty ribbon connector to the display, and it could just be slightly loose. There are articles on Google and videos on YouTube that help explain and show how to reseat it.
It probably isn't the inverter or backlight, since the backlight does work. The inverter output is between 500 to 700 v, but it takes special equipment to measure it, and you chance shorting it out if you measure it directly with a voltmeter. The following blog explains how to check them:
http://www.fonerbooks.com/test.htm
As long as you can reset it, it might be worth living with unless you can find an easy fix, or spot something suspect (cracked solder joint, etc.)
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.

First to be sure thet it is a monitor fault try it in another computer ...if it does the same than try to see what the issue is..Also try to see if any of the menu it shown on it ..if it does than get into its menu and reset settings to factory ..than press the auto ..and try again ..if the monitor shows the menu display ..than it is nothing wrong with it ..but it is either selected the second out on the video card ..or you plugged it in the wrong location on the unit ..see if you have a video card ..and also the on board one ..you might have it plugged into teh on board (vertical one ) instead in the pci video card ..Remember that once the video card installed it disables the on board one ..

if nothing of that will do ...and it is not working on anther computer ..than the invertor is to blame cause if it was the back light there still should be some very poor image on it ...it will just not be lighted enough but still have some traces of the image

I would not mess with that ..this will be just a patching ..and to make it right you should change the invertor whole...it is not that expensive ..and it is easier to be doe specially it you do it yourself..

In that case this is a picture of your inverter ..and so this is how it looks lik e..and what you have to do is to open it ..and check each part on it for resistance ...The once that are gone will not show any ..and need replace ...Just replace them by the serial or model written on them ..

The monitor is going into sleep mode and not coming out easily or now at all. Yellow light is flashing and does not turn green. Started coming out of computer stand by with this issue a few weeks ago......

Sounds like the problem I'm having. Research uncovered a common problem with failed capacitirs on the power supply board. If you look at the tops of the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board and any of them is bulging, you've found the problem. Check out http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/Repair-Kit-X2gen-MW22U-DCAC0006-LCD-Monitor-Capacitor-P1799919.aspx for replacement capacitor set.

I understand that I can reset my x2gen lcd

Does it do the same on another PC? If it does, them more likely to have back lights problem due to bad caps in the power supply, bad inverter circuits, or bad lamps. You need to open it up and post back what you see inside so we can guide you furher. See exaple of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
There is no reset button/function.

Probably parts in the power supply are slowly dying. Do you have the expertise to open an LCD monitor and replace parts? Or should you drop this off with a pro?
