Question about Brother HL 2700CN Laser Printer
Sorry, this sounds outside my experience. The only trigger for the 'illegal toner' message that I know is that the cartridge has the wrong plug on it. A 'proper' Brother cartridge will have the same plug as the rest and be very easy to check.
I have both refilled empty cartridges and used commercially refilled ones. As I said, the only time I have seen this message was with the wrong plug. When I used non-spec toner I got 'ghosting' as the toner stayed too long on the transfer belt. No error message, just poor quality printing.
OPC belts appear to need changing fairly often - I am on my third. Take it out and have a look (note that it is light sensitive, do it quickly in dim light). If it is not a clear shiny green it may not be up to spec. As a quick fix you can reset the 'replace OPC belt' message, but they do wear out. It is used to transfer toner from the cartridge to the paper - so failure means poor quality printing rather than a refusal to print.
Sorry I cannot help further.
