Noisy fan stops when I open my freezer

Some refrigerators control the freezer fan by turning it off when the door is open to minimize cold air loss. This is likely normal for your model (check wiring diagram to ascertain this.) The freezer fan is the noisiest component on a refrigerator so the noise might be typical of your model. If it is excessively noisy (it's louder now than it used to be) then it will probably be one of the following: 1) bad fan motor bearings and the motor should be replaced, 2) loose or broken fan blade and should be replaced, or 3) frost/ice buildup on the evaporator (cooling) coil that the fan blade hits and the cause of the frost /ice should be corrected (likely a defrost problem.)

We have a fourteen month old Whirlpool ARC900 4.38CF. Motor is very noisy and doesn't cut out. Fridge not cold inside, so food gone off. Outside front door gets cold.

Good day,
The machine has 3 motors. The fan motor behind the rear panel in the freezer and a condenser fan motor located near the compressor that cools the compressor. If one of those 2 are an issue you should be able to change the bad one. It's pretty much a nuts and bolts job.
However, if it's the compressor, leave it alone. It carries a 5 year warranty. Call your selling dealer and schedule a warranty service call.

My Whirlpool refrigerator quits working and restarts

Good day,
If it only occurs on a monthly cycle, even a service tech would not find it unless it happened while he was there.
First choice would be to replace both the thermostat and the defrost control. These are the items that turn the machine off and on and either one could hang or stick once in a while.

NOW, that is based on the fact that the machine goes totally dead during that period. If you hear something, anything running then the above does not apply.
The possibilities then, are, the fan motor in the freezer won't run (you can hear it running when you open the freezer door), the cooling fan motor behind the bottom rear cover that cools the compressor and condenser same situation, will not run.

Lastly, the start relay mounted on the side of the compressor is weak. It will not kick in the compressor, but in that situation, the fans will run.

Hope that helps. I've serviced a lot of refrigerators with that complaint, and it's always been the first 2 items.

My Whirlpool refrigerator builds up ice in the freezer around where the cold air comes from. Eventually it starts to fill the bottom of the freezer with clear ice. It has done this almost from since it was...

you should manually defrost fridge/freezers every 6 months for optimum performance.also fill any spare capacity with clean waste foam, cuts down on all that cold air dropping the floor/warm air filling void (i put foam in plastic bags. works for me

Whirlpool model ED5FHAXSLOO refrig 3 years old very noisy

If it is cooing fine, then the noise is probably your evaporator fan (the one inside your freezer). This can be cause by one of several things. The motor on this fan may be going bad, or, more likely, you may have a build up of ice around the blades that are touching the fan. This may be caused by a defrost circuit that has gone bad, or, the freezer may have been open alot lately and there is an excess of frost that hasn't melted away yet. If you can, manually defrost the freezer and see if it goes away. If it doesn't, it's probably the fan motor. If it does, and then comes back, it's probably the defrost circuit. Hope this helps!

3 month whirlpool refrig. whole system seems to be shutting down.

You most likely have a bad pc board. If I were you I would call Whirlpool and have them send a technician out and fix it under warranty. The number should be on your paper work that came with unit. If not, call 1-800-555-1212 and ask for the number. I could try to help fix but if you mess with it, the warranty will be voided.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Make sure your fan is working ,its located behind the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked (usually with ice). With out a fan you have no circulation but your freezer may look likes its working,it may last 3 days. Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open untill all traces of ice are gone this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

I'll bet the freezer is not as cold as it was. Fully defrost the unit by leaving it unplugged for about 2 days. Check all gaskets. Clean the condenser coils under the unit. Restart. You have too much condensate in the box...either uncovered food or windowshopping or somebody didn't shut the door properly.
