Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera

No image on screen

Hi. Hope anyone out there can help. My Cyber-shot DSC-W50 has a blank black screen. The lens extends when switched on, but no image can be seen. I am able to see the info on screen, like battery charge and different settings etc. But no image. I removed the memory card and replaced it but still no go. Any suggestions or solutions will be appreciated.

The camera lens itself is either broken or the connected is severed. You can check this by opening the camera which might provide difficult for most people but is the only option to really see the exact problem unless you see the lens damaged.

Please let me know what you find, good luck

also, if you need any other help with this camera, please let me know, I would be glad to help

Tap side of camera with base of hand with 2 or 3 sharp taps. Then turn camera on. Problem should be solved. If not, then try the same with the camera ON.

You can even try a hard reset: Remove the batteries (and SD Card, if you wish), wait for a couple of minutes. Hold the power button down and reinsert batteries. Turn the device on.

If that still does not work, it could indicate a problem with the LCD mechanism of the viewscreen or the ribbon connector. In this case, you will probably need to get it serviced.

Hello,

Bummer huh? I dropped mine a while back and damaged my battery cover!

I would try...taking out the batteries and reinstalling them! This may reset your camera?

Otherwise, I would do a web search and type in:

Hope this helps you get your camera working again!

Lens will not extend, keep getting "turn the power off and on again" message.

Try grabbing the end of the lens while its coming out. That might free up and realign the lens. If you hear a grinding noise when the lens is moving, than your gears are chewed up. If it needs repairs go to esupport.sony.com Hope this helps

Sony cyber-shot DSC-W50 digital camera when cutting on the on button on the camera it says turn the power off and on again.

You can try the following 2 ways: 1. Format and restore the initial value of the camera. 2.First open the battery box cover (notice: do not pull out the battery now), then start the camera, pull out the battery just after the Len has turn out. Install the battery a few seconds later. Now start your camera with the Play button which is next to the viewfinder boot, and then moving the hand wheel to switch to camera mode, after Image appearing the screen, the camera will work properly.

Help! model DSC-W80

The problem with your camera is part of the lens but it not the shutter. It is the CCD it is on the back of the lens if you are inside turn off the flash and in a office light setting try taking a picture to see if you get any type of image. if you do than that confirms it is the ccd. the CCD is what convert the light to data to send the image to memory. if it is too bright and it is defective then you might eather get a white or black screen. Repairs for it can range 85.00 plus shipping and up. let me know if you need anything else hope this helps.

Hi

You probably have a faulty lens unit. You can make sure of this by checking that the spaces between the two rings that extend forward at switch on has the same distance between each other.

If it is not the case, your lens is damaged and needs to be replaced.

It normally costs about 1/3 the price of the camera, so it should still be worth replacing.

Bear in mind though that only Sony Service Centres can help you as the y need to setup the new lens adjustments with Sony specific software.

Hope this helps.
