Sorry, but it means that the Vista OEM software that was put on the hard drive is lost, unless you have a backup of the drive before the upgrade to XP.

You will need to get a vista CD and load it using the Vista product key on the PC.

Yes of course. Decide what the VGA card is now and using the same format check out online or in stores for a better quality one.

Hi i would like to start my pc back too new??

What do you mean? Start back to new could mean you want to discard all software you've added since it was brand new. To do this, get ahold of your original Operating System Disk. Do a re-install and format the disk. This will do what you want, I believe.

Destructive recovery

Yes you can format the current partition your windows is on using the standard XP home disk and have a completly fresh clean XP install

If your starting the XP home CD in windows itself then you will get 2 options;
1 is to upgrade your current installation
2 is a 'New' installation

its the New installation you need...

If your starting the XP home CD from the CD boot menu [when you restard your PC] at the 3rd or 4th screen it will ask you the partition options;

1 is to 'Leave the current file system in tact'
2 is to 'Format (quick)'
3 is to 'Format'

you do not want option 1 that will keep all your old windows files etc [and the malware]

option 2 or 3 is what you need for a fresh install (2 is faster and will be fine for you)

If you need more help let me know...

Repair of notebook

I'm going to step out on a limb for you on this.
I'm sure I will get flamed for this.

but listen, when ever the computer gets a virus, dammage may have already been done by that virus
even if the antivirus software has removed it.

in short , any other solutions provided will not even remotely help if the system has been infected.

Virus dammage must be controlled first !

My recommendation here is that you perform a complete system restore, and that does mean formatting the hard drive while your at it.

And thank you most kindly for selecting FixYa!

I would like to format my amilo siemens computer. Any suggestions on how to go about it? I do have the windows recovery cd that came with it. Is it of any help? Thanks

Assuming you want to go back to FACTORY settings, you need to change BIOS settings so PC boots from CD, INstall recovery disk 1 and boot from it and follow instructions. It "MAY" give you an option to back up data but donot rely on this and back up any data you want BEFORE you start

post back any further questions and/or results
