    hi yes this lap top 12 moths old now. l. would say low usage.

    Dust build up not the problem. I WOULD AGREE IT USED TO RUN HOT. It does seem that it has been set up for fan to run constantly to prevent overheat ,It does seem fan now runs when not required which l would think would create a dust restriction prematurely

    repairs have been carried out by flextronics three times now for

    various reasons, main one being the wireless card failure .

Most likely a power supply problem. Your power supply is probably going bad or not powerful enough for your system. Swap it out for a known working power supply with enough power for your system. Also make sure there is not excessive dust and dirt on the fans.

I have a problem with a HP Pavillion a1114n. when u press the power button the cpu fan spins up for about 1 second and then cuts off and then the power led blinks on and off continuously

Bad Power Supply.
Weak voltage power rail

The hardware components inside your computer (HP Pavilion a1114n Desktop PC), are cooled by air flow. Heat is radiated away, then air flow helps carry the heat away. (Heatsink/Fan)

The Power Supply is cooled by the same method.
Power Supply's used in today's computers are SMPS.
Switched-Mode Power Supply,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply

Click on the photo of the open Power Supply, to the upper right.
In-between the letters B and C, and C and D; are Heatsinks.

Look like whitish/grayish rectangular blocks, of varying thicknesses, stacked along a singular flat bar.

The block shapes are aluminum fins.

Whatever this Heatsink is placed against, it will absorb the heat from it, and radiate it away with the thin fins.
Air flow from the small internal Fan, helps carry heat away from the thin fins.

Heat = Wasted Energy
The Power Supply overheats, and cannot keep up with the call for power.
Components inside fail; the Power Supply fails.

A THIN coat of dust on the Heatsink fins for the Processor, will drop the cooling capacity a LOT.

If you would like to test the Power Supply, you will be using the test for the three main voltages;
3.3 Volts, 5 Volts, and 12 Volts. All are DC Voltage.

(In comparison two D cell flashlight batteries store 3 Volts DC.
The dangerous voltage is contained within the metal case, of the Power Supply)

You need a multimeter. An economical model is around $5 to $12.
Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example. Large store chains may carry them on a checkout aisle rack.

Or if there is a working unused computer, that has a KNOWN to be good, and Compatible Power Supply, you could borrow it for a temporary test unit.

When I turn on my HP Pavillion dv6000 it starts up but when it gets to the screen where you type in your password its black with the cursor on it.

marissalynn5, use the Restoration Disk, and choose Non-Destructive Installation when asked. (Repair)

If you do Not have the Restoration Disk (CD);

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship. $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Call HP Support's toll-free phone number 1-800-474-6836.
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Tell the representative that you need the Restoration Disk.
The representative may ask for the Product Number, or the Serial Number.

This is on the Bottom of the laptop in the white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number
S/N = Serial Number

Turn the laptop on, install the disk in the DVD optical drive, close the drive tray. Perform the above.

If you are not in the USA, here is HP Support Worldwide contact information,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html

[ If I may. If you are not in the USA, and obtain the Restoration Disk, may I ask how support treated you, and the cost of shipping of the disk? Was the disk free? ]

If using the Restoration Disk does not cure the problem, then I have bad news.

The HP Pavilion dv2000 series, Pavilion dv6000 series, and dv9000 series, have an inherent problem with the graphics chip.

My hp pavillion dv6000 laptop..the fan is unusually noisy??

Sometimes on my laptop the fan gets louder when it has been turned on when it is really cold or a hot environment. After I let it run for a while and then reboot it will operate as normal. I'm sure this is the same on a desktop.

If this is not the case then you would most likely need a replacement fan, as they do go out from use. In fact I've got a loud fan on one of my Desktops I will replace when I purchase a replacement.

RE HP Pavillion ZE4800 Laptop When I switch on I here the fan start, the lights come on then it appears to shut down and re attempt to start again This occurs over and over and the PC never boots fully....

I have same notebook and similiar problem. Mine runs for 30 min then shuts off completely in like 20 seconds. I added a $10 usb powered laptop cooler pad and bingo, runs now for hours no problem. On all computers I know the cpu heat temperature has a threshold, if it goes too high it will shut off. I think my fan doesn't kick on fast enough to lower the temperature and cool the processor. On yours it may be a fan that doesn't work or is working at the wrong time and the circuit shuts off the system. Shouldn't be terribly expensive maybe $60 to repair from a good technician..good luck

I HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH MY PC AS WELL..... I HAVE THE SAME ONE. WHEN YOU USE HIGH CPU APPLICATIONS, YOUR FAN ACCUMULATES LOTS OF DUST IN IT, WHEN THE FAN GETS BLOCKED UP, YOUR PROCESSER DOESNT COOL DOWN, TRY TAKING THE FAN OUT AND THE METAL PART, AND CLEANING IT OUT, BUT DONT TAKE OFF THE WHITE PASTE... JUST TAKE OFF THE DUST FROM THE FAN, THAT SHOULD COOL DOWN YOUR PC AND IT SHOULD STOP RUNNING AT HIGH RPM'S.. FYI... THE FAN IS ALWAYS RUNNING
