Turn the knob on the bottom of the center column until the top part holding the head comes off. Loosen the center column and drop it down to remove it. Put in the horozontal holder and reattach the top part with the head attached.

How do I connect a Manfrotto - 026 Swivel Umbrella Adapter (Lite-Tite) to a tripod?

Deborah
If you bought the Manfrotto #026 Lite-Tite new, it should have come with (2) brass adapters..., ((1) with male 1/4-20 & 3/8-16" threads & (1) with female 1/4-20" & 3/8-16" threads). All universal photo tripods made in the last 30 years use these (2) thread sizes. All you should need to mount this unit to a tripod is the 'female' adapter spud. If you are missing this item..., it is a Manfrotto #119 adapter (available through most photo dealers).

The knob/screw that loosens and tightens to move the brace up and down the center base broke off. I've only had this tripod for about a year and have hardly used it.

very cheap tripod. might want to find a better tripod.. they don't have a long life expectancy as they are made for cheaper camera systems and not suited for heavy cameras,, have you thought of buying a better tripod. i don't want yo uto think i am making fun of your tripod but quantaray anything is usually not that good.. quantaray products are usually sold in packages that you buy on-line when you buy one of their lenses and they pitch a tripod in which are chinese tripods and made very cheaply.. i would not trust one of my cameras on top of a quantaray tyripod ever.. they are just too unstable.. sorry . but you may want to try a kalaimar or a manfrotto or go to craigslist or ebay and buy a used bogen or manfrotto (same tripod) for a fraction of the price of a new one and they are considered to be professional and will last for many years.. i have used the same one for over 20 years and it still works as good as it did the day i got it..

How do I set the lock on my samsonite sky wheeler zipper spinner. thanks.

There are some brands of tripods that are made for the retailer and the name is licensed, so the name brand does not support or stock repair parts. Especially if the tripod is an inexpensive one. Because of the model and make of you tripod, I would recommend you throw it out and buy another one. In my opinion Slik and Manfrotto are two very good ones. Slik for the lesser expensive and Manfrotto for the more durable, expensive, parts are almost always available unless is it really old tripod. Removing Tripod head from center post on Manfrotto Modo 785B

I have the national geographic branded version. Here is how you remove the head.

(1) remove the center post from the tripod
(2) lock the ball head with the trigger lock
(3) grasp the body of the ball head with one hand and the center column with the other.
(4) turn counter clockwise.

If you're intending to replace the ballhead, be warned that the thread is non-standard. I have a new "plug" with a standard 1/4" thread made for free by the machinist at my job. I don't know how you would go about adapting it without such a capability.
