Re: Broken DS Hinge
No, there is too much pressure. But you can buy new cases. I have fixed three this way. The procedure is not for the squeemish, but here is how to dissassemble it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRzTgfo2PsM
Cases are available on ebay or many gamer sites. You will also need a triwing screwdriver, also available in the same manner. www.gamersection.ca is one example, but certainly not the only.
If you want to do this and you are not handy, I strongly suggest you find someone who is.

Yes its fixable but it depends on what has broken. There are two possibilities the small barrel hinge has broken, this is just a case of fitting a new one by opening the case, unscrew the light and gently pulling the top of the case away till you can change the barrel hinge. The other one is the case has broken and is not holding the barrel hinge, can bodge it with some glue sometimes but most often you need a new case.
I'm sorry to tell you but there is no *easy* fix. If you've had no experience taking apart and assembling a Nintendo DS, I advise you NOT to start with your one and only. It's so easy to rip the LCD cables because they're so thin and you'll have to go buy another.
There are two ways to fix this... Super glue / tape it as much as you can , or send it in for repair or find a local Game repair place.
To fix a broken hinge on a DS, it requires you to disassemble the WHOLE thing. Which sucks when just starting out.
You can buy a new plastic housing for your DS lite on many different sites. Some are great quality. If the DS still works (despite the broken hinge) it makes sense to replace the housing.
You should be able to find enough videos on youtube to learn how to disassembe the DS and not do any harm. Make sure that you buy a tri-wing screwdriver (also called a nintendo screwdriver).
There out it is nothing like a broken hinge only repair solution, the only way to get it repaired is to buy a new replacement shell and replace the broken parts or the whole shell, but some cheap shells wont last and will broke again so read reviews. And if you are not too skilled be careful when replacing or you can get your DS more damaged.
The best is to find a good case broken DS, like water damage etc. to get only the original plastic parts. I should love to have to buy only the broken parts needed but you have to buy the whole thing.
