Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

I took my Denon receiver to a local repair facility, because it wouldn't fully "boot", after shutting down, when I tried to run a computer rca plug (on both ends) from our computer to a in wall - monster cable jack. I.e. Guitar center sold me a cable with a double ended RCA computer plug so I could run music from our computer program, into our AVR3801 Dennon receiver. Music played on one of the two channels for about fifteen minutes, and then the receiver shut down to try and protect itself; but when I tried to reboot the receiver (after pulling out the cable jack, it couldn't complet the full bootup process. Eventually, the computer started malfunctioning, too, about eight weeks later!! The technician at the reapir facility noted that the micro control and switching circuits were damage, and HE SAID HE CAN'T GET THE PARTS FROM DENON. Do you know of anyone that I can contact that still has Denon parts (i.e. the nicro control...for my particular model type? We bought the unit back around 2002. Thanks for any help that you can provide...

Please post the exact symptoms. What do you mean by not "booting up"? Does it click on then click off? This would mean that the unit is in protect mode which is usually caused by a problem with the output amplifier section not the Micro. Do you have any experience with electronics repairs? If so, I can try to guide you through the repair.

Let me know.

HOW TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE

There may not be any facility to update the firmware for this model without taking to the service center. This model does not have any device input like SD card or internet connection that would enable download of firmware upgrade. The later Denon models have this capability.

You will have to consult the local Denon service center for advise.

Red power light blinking on my denon avr 1907, tried reset procedure, no speakers hooked up now and it still goes from green light to blinking red light and shuts off...Any clues?

This is a protection mode. The receiver protection circuit detects an internal problem like missing power supply voltage or blown channel and shuts down the receiver. You need to bring the unit to a repair facility.

Maybe. Clearly something blew up. Diagnostic time costs money. Then there are parts and labor.

You can get a new one on ebay ending tomorrow for as little as $140 delivered.

When I turn on my receiver, it automatically turns off and the power button flashes red. Prior to shut down, the receiver display notes "Tuner Ext. In" What's the problem? It has worked p

Protection circuit turns off the unit because of critical conditions- wrong power supply voltages or one of the power amplifier channels is bad. First, visual inspect the power amp board near the heat sink for burned resistors, test outputs for a short. If there are no problem you may try to turn the unit on and you have several second before it shuts down to check power supply voltages and power amp output voltages and bias, then ... Long story you'd better take it to a repair shop or repair at ebcelectronics.com

Denon AVR881 Turns on for few seconds then shuts OFF

(Probably too late to help you, but I'll post so others can see)
I had the same thing happen to my trust AVR-881 two weeks ago. Even re-initializing the processor was no help.
I took it to the repair shop. They replaced three transistors on the board, and charged about $175 for the job.

My denon avr-a10se stop working. When I start, aftr thr quick intiation the amp shuts itself and the red power light start to blinvk quickly - please help

This unit is in protect mode. This means that a problem was detected in the last stage of the amplifier section and the unit shuts down to prevent further damage. The most common failure parts are the output transistors. These usually run between $5-$15 each. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost.

Denon 1601 avr

The unit is in protect mode. It has detected a problem in the final output stage and has shut down to prevent further damage. Disconnect the speakers completely and try turning it on. If you still get the same symptom, the problem is inside the unit and repair is required. Usually when this occurs, the output transistors have failed. There will be at least 2 that need to be replaced. Figure on parts costing around $15-$25. Add in the local labor rate for the complete repair cost.
