You can try data recovery software such as CDroller or "Bad CD DVD repair" Or send it off to a mini dvd recovery company such as www.minidvdrepair.com I used them in the past with great results. I believe I paid around $100
You may be able to get some freeware software that can recover data from the disc you have formatted but i would not be too confident about getting any files back.
most normal formats tend to remove just the table of contents from the device so it "forgets" about the data on it, but i belive the format you may have done would have cleaned out the entire disc read for use in DVD players.
its worth having ago with the data recovery software first it might work.
