When I plug the Nanon 4GB Silver in to the computer it says that I need ITunes 7.4. When I try to load 7.4 it says that I need XP, which I don't have.

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

Yep, I tried iTunes 7.4 and when it tried to install is said that I needed XP or Vista

I am trying again with iTune 7.5

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

I can download 7.5 but when I try to install it I am told I need XP

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

Thank you so much. Just to be sure you understand that this is a brand new IPod Nano 4GB Silver. My wife's old Nano was stole and so I bought this new one.

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

I tried Media Monkey and it download and copied my files from I Tunes but, every time I plug my new IPod in, I Tunes opens, doesn't show my I Pod and tells me I need a new version of I Tunes. It seems I need to get into my I Pod and tell it not to sync with I Tunes. Do you know if there is a way to do that?

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

You are being very helpful thank you so much

Is there a way to just shut down I Tunes without removing it?

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

I understand how to do that but the problem is that I Tunes does not see my new Nano because the I Tunes software is not up to date.

So I plug in my Nano, I Tunes opens, without showing my device (Nano) and says I need to update the software.

  • chitownguy May 09, 2008

I figured out how to work this.

I plugged the new Nano in to my computer that runs on XP and has ITunes. I registered the new Nano and then changed the settings on it as instructed by MediaMonkey

Then I connected the Nano to the machine running Windows 2000 and it worked, it flawlessly performed the sync.

I am happy, thanks for your help.

  • Ekse May 09, 2008

Il post back to you soon, I have a windows 2000 laptop il try to get it to install if I can get it to install il tell you how to do it. If I cant get it to install il tell you also.

  • Ekse May 09, 2008

Ok, I've tryed it and you can't get the 7.4 or newer to install on a windows 2000 pro pc.

You can buy a xp home / pro upgrade

you can use a 3rd party ipod management program like SharePod

I tested it on my windows 2000 pro laptop

I got a error message and had to download net framework 2.0

You can get it from here

  • Ekse May 09, 2008

after that the program worked fine. allthought I have no ipod to test it with.

  • Ekse May 09, 2008

One way would be to uninstall itunes, the program doesnt require Itunes to my knowledge the sharepod I posted.

need to download itunes (free) from apple website, then drop computer music into it. If not the right file it will take some time to convert it. (Ipod doesnt use mp3s, uses something else).
