Question about Toshiba MW24FM1 24 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

1 Answer

TV not detecting remote control signal

I noticed a bunch of ther people have the same problem. Is there a part I can replace? I can't justify the cost of having it professionally repaired. Everything works fine on the TV, except for the remote.

Yes my MW24FM1 seems to have the same problem. From time to time the 3 remotes (2 cable and 1 OEM) may turn the TV on, but then not work at all for a long time. The 2 cable remotes work fine on the cable receiving box (all functions), but not on the TV. I have reset the code in both cable remotes several times closely following the directions. I've even got the correct code via the remote (0060), but when recoded, the TV does not respond. As I said, the OEM remote does not work either. This sounds like the IR sensor that you suggested; would you agree? If so, is it all that difficult to install? Cost?

Thank you for your time and expertise!

It's simply a defective IR sensor Toshiba P/N 72796410 and if you know how to remove the main board and have a soldering unit that is a bit more delicate than than the monsters they sell at rat shack, some solder and desoldering braid you just might be able to do it yourself...

TV brand?
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.

Sounds like your DVD players infrared receiving sensor(eye) has gone bad, a rare occurance but I have had that fail in other electronic units before. This would require you to send it in for service but the cost of the repair may justify just replacing the unit. Good luck !

You are checking signals at the micro in the TV set? I would first suspect a noisy remote receiver then before replacing other costly items.
