Dell E172FP 17" Flat Panel

Power light blinks on and off. Picture comes up for one second on power up then screen goes black. Since repairs cost so much and probably have to replace anyway, thought we'd try to open and look around. How do we open and what do we look for?

Thanks

same problem and power switch blinks green/ screen black

I have isolated the monitor and done the self-test. Each time I turn the monitor on I get the self-test image but only for a second or so. If I now turn off the monitor and then on again the same sequence occurs.

Same problem, when the monitor is switched on the green power light comes on, the screen flashes on for less than one sec and the green power light then starts flashing and the screen is black. Any ideas?

    Thanks GrahamBro

I have the same problem with my monitor. As I was on my computer last week, the screen just went black. I turned it off and back on and that's when it began to go dim after a second or two. After about a second the monitor still has power but the screen goes very dim, almost completly black. I hooked up a different monitor to my computer and the new monitor works fine.

I encountered exactly the same problems that appeared suddenly. There
is nothing in the text book and nobody seems to have any idea here. How
do the other guys have solved their problem ? by purchasing a new
    screen ?

My screen is 5 years old and it has stop working all together. It started fading out to black after it was turned on. At first we could hit the power button and that would take care of it for a little while, now it doesn't come back on. I called Dell and asked them about this and they said for me to buy a new monitor.. I am surprised that the monitors don't last longer then that now days..

Hi i also have a monitor just like that. I power on at the pc tower and i see the motherboard welcome screen but then the monitor screen goes black as if no power is attached. I then turn the monitor off and then back on again. But yet again only staying on for a second or two. I have only connected the montior to one computer, but the machine is a new build and works perfectly. Just wondering could it be the inverter? Any help here would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. topcat

On the power board there are 2 pairs of 2sc5707 transistors these tend to short circuit. A possible solution is to change the faulty pair or all 4 transistors. More details can be found if you google the problem.

The power button is not working it blinks a green light

Disconnect the display from the Computer and remove its power plug. While the display is turned off, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After two minutes connect the power cord and the display cord to the Computer and the power source and turn it ON.

If the power indicator on the display keeps blinking, then it's required to open it up to repair it.

Press power on... screen flashes on (blink), then goes blank and power button flashes

dpelrod727, Yes, the "switch-mode-power-supply" is in "partial" or "full" SHUTDOWN mode. Reconnect E172FP to a fully booted KNOWN good PC with the win-desktop as the displayed screen. Check with flashlight to see if your LCD panel is both BLACK and BLANK, or just BLACK by holding a bright flashlight 1" from screen at different angles even though the screen appears to be blank. If very faint image of desktop is seen then your SMPS is still half alive. Here are your options in either case. 1. Trade in for new. 2. Try Dell for a cash+old swapout for a Refurbed unit. 3. Check out www.ccl-la.com/badcaps, www.badcaps.net, www.lcdparts.net, and YOUTUBE long video clips dealing with LCD monitor disassembly and LCD repair. could be helpful in making decision on what to do. I'm 12fixlouie If this was helpful rate on fixya.

Dell 17inch flat screen monitor will not remain on, the screen go

If your Dell monitor still under into warranty, better to call Dell technical support and have them replace your monitor coz there is no way you can fix on it.

If the monitor is beyond with the warranty already, better to but a new one than taking it repair that will cost you much.

Thank you.

Dell E172FP 17 monitor keeps blinking

That sounds like the backlight inverter board. Check ebay for the board or a repair kit for it.
