For the first one above, you need windows cd (I assume yours is windows xp). You can borrow to somebody who has it.

Hey Amanda - Are we talking about the Windows password? I'll tell you what to do. If it's something else just let me know.

1)Boot the pc and as soon as you see something on the screen start hitting the F8 key. This will take you to a boot option menu.
2)Choose safe mode and hit enter.
3)After you get the welcome to windows screen, you should get a screen with a user account name and a administrator account.
4)90% of Administrator accounts aren't password protected in Windows so choose Administrator and hopefully it will booy into safe mode.
5)Once in Safe Mode, click on Start>control panel (may have to double click)>user accounts.
6)Once there, first create a user account for yourself and make sure you click on computer administrator. (you need this to install software and other things). This is a must!!!
7)If you create a password it will ask you for it everytime you start Windows. If you want, there is a tool on the left, prevent a lost password that creates a disk to get you in if you forget your password.
8)Reboot your pc. After the Welcome screen there will be two accounts. The old one and yours. Choose yours.
9)Once it,s done booting, Choose Start>control panel>user accounts. Then just delete the other account. You'll be left with just your account(remember - Computer Administrator)

If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, don't rate it yet, and just add a comment letting me know what happened. If you need any further help with this just add a comment and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks.

AVG antivirus 2015 upgraded my laptop over weekend, RV511, the usual login detail has not worked, the hint, even show differently.

Login as different user. You can then reset primary user settings or restore settings to prior time. Do you require AVG to backup settings before installation?

Someone changed my pass word to my dell vostro and my back up flash drive broken

You need to get the password!

Get them to unlock / give you the password. This can be more serious than expected.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lost Windows password:

  • Login as Administrator. Try with no password (load safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode.
  • Login as other user (if other user is availible) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  • Reformat computer.
  • Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html

I have a HP Pavillion Lap top and forgot the pass word that goes with my user name

Restart your computer. When your computer is restarting spam the f8 key until it shows you a black screen with multiple options. One of those options will be "Safe Mode". Select this option and it should give you the option to login as administrator when it displays the user select screen. When you select administrator and it lets you in change your account password. Restart your computer again and login with the new password you set.

I have a Toshiba 4600 Lap top and I forgot my log on passwords, how can I reset it so I can have access to my lap top

if u have made reset disk like pen drive then u can use it for resetting ur password other wise do following

  1. Attempt to Login to Windows XP as the Administrator. Since many people never set their administrator password, you may still be able to get in to that account and reset your password. By default, this will not be shown. To access this user do the following. At the login screen where all the users are shown, press Ctrl-Alt-Del TWICE. It will bring up the old style login like windows 98. At user type "Administrator", leave password field empty and press enter to try and log in.
If successful you have 3 choices to do this.
1: Right click on my computer and select "Manage". On the left side select "local users and groups" and then "Users". Your login name will appear in the right hand side. Right click on it and select "Set Password". Fill in the fields or leave them empty. Apply it and your done.
2: Go to "control panel" and Select "User Accounts". In the window select "change an account" and then select which user. From there you select "Remove password" And, if it works, you're done. I have encountered it before that it asks for the password before it will remove it.
3: Go to "Start", "Run". Type in "cmd" to bring up the command window. In the window type:
"net user *USERNAME* 1234"
"net user" Always in the beginning. After the word "user" is a space and the user name. (NB) This does not work with user names which is more than 1 word. Example 'user 1' would not work where 'User1' would work. After the user name has been typed in there is another space and then a new password where I typed 1234.
So... "net user *USERNAME* 1234"

Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys Twice and it?ll show Classic Login box. Now type ?Administrator? (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from ?Control Panel -> User Accounts?.
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

if you are locked out of your computer, then a password recovery utility is available for you

I forgot my Administrator Password

While you lost windows os password, you can enter safe mode (F8 when booting up) to remove windows password when you lost user account password, but when you forgot admin passwords, there is no way to change it, you have to use tool to recover administrator password. Yesterday evening, I forgot my Windows administrator password. At last, I used Windows Password Seeker to retrieve my Windows password successfully. It's worth a try.
