Advice received was very generic. Of course I
know that Wizard oz-730 can be sent back to Sharp for repair. However, I was led to believe Fixya could help me fix the problem based on experience with other callers. Someone must know have had a similar problem ie the unit turns on and off several times before it actually engages. Please help. Helen

    Hi,

Thank you for trying to help.

Re: Your response 1. The two AA batteries are checked and changed periodically before

    the unit goes dead.

    Hi Rockmeister,

    Response to your suggestions:

    1. The two AA batteries are changed peroidically before the unit goes dead.

    2. The power button has not been serviced. If that is the problem then sending

to Sharp seems to be the only solution, right?

Hello Madam,

First we should find out what could be the problem and its solution.

1)First change AA batteries and check. Some batteries will go dead so we say the battery is stone dead.Your Sharp will try to get the charge but it will not able to.So wen you try lot of time it will get small amount charge that is left once it is on,The charge will be lost,So switches off.
2)The on/Off switch button is pressed a contact of rubber plate is made with the internal board so it get on/off.If water is poured on it ,Short circuit will cause this problem. If you have necessary screw drivers you can take apart and see water mater marks on the internal board. It will look like patch of water on the gold linings on the board.
3)The connector Jumber IC needs to soldered or replace if it is defective.Use multimeter and check you get any reading. If do not get solder it and check it else replace it.

If the Battery is new and if witches on and off then
Most the the charger IC will be defective. You have to replace this one.

Use continuity testing method on the board for diagnose of the problem.

Yes your device can be repaired. But before the problem has to be determined.
First thing to be checked is the power pack is it still good enough to power the device because if the battery in completely dead the unit comes on for a bit and then blanks out.
has the power button been serviced? if the power button has not been serviced then it should be cheked because the power button might be making an inpartial contact which shuts down the unit aftr it is put on.
If these two seem not to be the problem then take the device to an expert for servicing and a more comprehensive diagnosis.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Helen,
Yes, it can be repaired. I feel that it has a faulty power on switch that is misbehaving. Please have it replaced from the Sharp service center.

You need the cable that came with the wizard. I think it is a serial cable. Then you need the software that came o a disk with the device. Does not matter, what port you use, serial or USB you always first need to install the software before you can connect it to the computer and work with it. Sometimes you still can fine the old software on the site of the producer of the device. (Sharp this time)

I have an OZ-730 sharp wizard and it will not turn on, batteries are new and i tried the reset button. last time i used it the screen went black and then it turned off? help

Be sure the batteries are in correctly and are good, be sure the battery switch is back to the "normal position" - also it may have to be reset to work again - here is the instruction manual for doing that , page 7 chapter 1:
