Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I finally had to unplug the printer because it constantly cycles through the startup process and then restarts and does it all over again. I never received any error message. I just see the progress bar and this is shuts off and restarts. Unplugging it doesnt help.

I had this same problem with my C6180. The printer was well out of warranty so I decided to tear into it. I removed the three black torx screws covering the mother board. I then removed the screws holding the mother board to the chassis and found a swollen 330 uf 10V capacitor. I replaced the capacitor at a cost of $1.70 and everythng now works fine.

Typically after unplugging / replugging a refrigerator they will start running again within a few minutes. Have you checked the defrost timer? This will essentially interrupt the cooling cycle to provide time for the defrosting process. A faulty timer may be delaying the startup to after the next defrost cycle. Hope this helps..

Power problem

This may or may not be of any help, but I had a Sony system that had a malfunctioning remote control and it would cycle power constantly. You might try pulling the batteries and see if it changes.

Here's what you need to do. Reset the printer by pressing and holding the power button 5-10 seconds. It should turn off. Unplug it from the power outlet and from the computer. Do a power cycle by pressing the power button for 5 seconds (connections should still be disconnected during this process). Plug it back in to the power source and the computer. Turn it on.

Restart the computer. After restarting, test print. It should work. I have tried it a lot of times.

Keeps restarting

I do not know about the screeching part, that could be part of the problem or completely independent of the problem. When my machine kept repeating the "startup" process, it was because my bulbs went out. The printer then would never get warm enough to melt the ink to begin printing, so it would just keep restarting, and restarting the warming up process. One way to tell is to take off the side cover. Then peer into the side and see if you see a bright light - which would be your bulbs. I have no idea though what to tell you about the screeching thing.

Can't load the software on my new laptop for my hp printer

Removing the software and reinstalling it using a "clean boot" may resolve the symptoms you are experiencing. Booting clean is a way to eliminate programs from conflicting with installation of software.

1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
2. Open the Add / Remove Programs window.
3. Locate the listing for the software and remove it. When prompted to remove the printer drivers files, click Yes.

Now download the latest version of the software for your OS from the manufacturer's website.

The following is the procedure for a 'clean boot'. I am assuming that you have XP.

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart

After restarting, install the downloaded software. Next, do the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. Replace checkmarks in the items that you previously removed them from.
3. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
4. Click OK
5. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.
