Question about Singer 14SH654

1 Answer

How do I adjust the tension to get it sewing evenly? I was given a Singer 14u32 without an instruction booklet. The thread that goes through the top needle (green dial) breaks infrequently. Thank you

How to thread tension on my L47 singer sewing machine

Threading and tension are two different things.

You can search for a manual:
Make Model manual
or
Make Model threading
(most machines thread similarly so even if you don't find your specific model, the instructions would be helpful)

https://www.manualslib.com/products/Singer-L47-4062252.html

When threading, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot so the thread will seat completely in the tension disk.

For tension, generally start with the tension set at the midway point. Tension is correct when the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. If the bobbin thread is showing on the fabric top, loosen the top tension. If the top thread is showing on the underside of the fabric, tighten the top tension. Do not adjust the bobbin tension until it has been determined that the top tension does not make the adjustments needed. (Bobbin tension is sensitive--a little change makes a big affect so you will need to know how to reverse any changes you make.)

I am not sure about this particular machine but in most machines there will be a nob on the front loose low numbers like 0 1 -2 work well on number 3. If the nob is not on the front check and see if it is on the side.

I have a new singer 7469 confidense quilter - regardless of thread, needle, and material (all being appropriate for one another) the upper tension always pulls the bottom thread to the top. I have tried...

1. Adjust the bobbin tension tighter. The tension you are trying for is to be equal to the top tension.
2. The top tension should start at about four. When you are threading the top do it with the pressure foot up.
3. As you are threading the top give little tugs to check for snags.
4. When you thread the tension control make sure it goes through the tension disc.
5. After you have threaded (except needle) lower the pressure foot.
6. Give a tug to see if the thread will move without excessive resistance.
7. Thread the needle and try sewing.

I have a singer 5062 that was given to me and I am not sure how to thread it. Also I would like to download a manual if possible. My top stitch looks good but the bottom thread keeps looping up and looks...

Go to http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals and enter 5062 into the search field. You can download your manual for free in Adobe Reader format. That should have instructions on how to thread.

It also sounds like your tension needs to be adjusted. Let me give you instructions for adjusting the tension on anysewing machine. Be sure to have a scrap piece of the fabric you are using andthread the top of the machine with a different color of thread than thebobbin-it'll make it easier to see what's going on. Thread your machine with the presser foot UP. The disks that control the tension (threadgoes through them) are tightened up if the foot is down. Change the machine tension with the presser foot DOWN.Because the disks won't be engaged (see above) if the foot is up, the diskswon't move. Start at the middle setting, 3. Go up to tighten, decrease toloosen. Each machine is different, even 2 different machines of the same model. The best thing to do is start at 3 and use a different color in the top andbobbin thread so you can easily see what changes to the tension do to yourstitches. Now use a straight stitch a sew 3 or so inches. Take a lookat the top and bottom of the fabric. You don't want to see any (or at least notmuch) of the other color showing from the other side. Loops on the bottom of the fabric means you need to tighten(increase) your top tension. If you're stitches on the bottom are causingpuckering, then you need to loosen you're top tension. For the most part, youreally don't want to touch your bobbin tension-leave that to a repairtechnician. The factory setting shouldn't be touched except by someone whoreally knows what they're doing. Keep sewing a few inches at a time until you have the resultsyou want. Now you're tension is where you need it!

Bottom thread too loose; tried rethreading top thread, cleaning bobbin case, refilling bobbin, changing needle, adjusting top tension

Check for correct bottom thread tension.
It's provided by a flat spring on the bobbin holder.
When the bobbin is correctly installed, pulling on the thread
should meet with slight resistance, and the bobbin should spin without
trying to jump out of the bobbin holder.

Seat the bobbin & adjust tension on Singer 9018

basic tension instructions apply...bottom tension should be moderate, thread should pass when holding thread and dangle the case. Top tension should pull bottom thread JUST to the top side of fabric. thread bobbin case counter clockwise.
