This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Why doi have grey lines across my Sharp camcorder VL z7 when It on play back. Theres sound breakage as well. Can someone tell me why?

Do you get the grey line when you play back incamera ?
Have you transferred the file outside the camcorder ?

If you get the grey line in both, invariably the recording head needs cleaning.

Power on the ViewCam.
Eject the tape.
Use a soft lint free cloth and generally clean the head.
The head of the large metallic cylindrical thing placed slightly titled.
It is right at the bottom of the camera beyond those small posts.
If your finger cannot approach, use a swab with mild spirit/alcohol.
Let it dry a minute and then record a fresh material and try.
Please reply if it helped or not.

Grey Lines across video display

Same thing is happening to mine, it's not the minidv because i tried that one on a diffrent camera and it works fine. It's got to be a setting or something. If anyone can figure it out, that would be great.

I also got the same problem. i think the tape is dirty or spoil and you better save the video into your CD or DVD or else it will be gone forever.

How do I remove lines

I had the problem of the horizontal grey lines with some pixels of pink. I ran the dry head cleaner a few times and the lines became solid grey with the sound now skipping worse than before. I cried, cleaned again, then played the tape. I did this about 4 times and still had no luck.

I then decided to try to record with a new tape around the room to see what would happen. After recording I played the tape back and it worked perfectly. I then went back the old tape that would not play properly and it worked fine! Seems like when I used the record button after cleaning it a few times everything worked fine, wierd.

Hope this might help someone.

Pink or grey horizontal lines on video download or viewing

I have the same issue and have for over a year (haven't had the time to send it to Canon for a few weeks to analyze, but have cleaned it numerous times). But I can tell you that the problem is internittent and the recordings are fine. Eventually, don't know the remedy, but it will suddenly stop doing that and I can download fine, and watch on camera fine. When it does happen, I just keep recording. It never shows up permanently. I re-tyr downloading or viewing and about the 3rd or 3th time (let it sit for a few hours between) it is normal!

What is moir??

Sometimes odd stripes or colors will appear in a digital image, either from a high-end digital camera, or from a scanned image. This effect is called moir? and is caused when a fine pattern in the subject (such as the weave in a fabric or very close, parallel lines in architecture) matches the pattern of the imaging chip. When two patterns meet, often a third, new pattern is created. This third pattern is called moir?. Notice in the illustration below the round, circular patterns (on the right) created as the two grids are combined; this is moir?. In order to reduce (or eliminate) moir?, a special anti-aliasing filter is mounted in the camera. If too strong a filter is mounted an overall soft image will be produced, but with no moir?. If a weaker filter is chosen the image will be sharper, but there is more of a chance for moir? to happen in some circumstances. Nikon has chosen to produce the sharpest image that can be made, even though there may be some moir? in parts of some images. Notice the red/blue stripes on the bottom of the bag (which should be solid grey) To help reduce moir? there are many techniques to use: Change angle of camera. Since the angle of the camera and subject causes moir?, slightly changing the angle of the camera (by rotating the camera) can remove or change any moire that is present. Change camera position Again, changing the angle relationship by moving left or right, up or down can reduce moir?. Change focus point Moir? is caused by very sharp focus and high detail on fine patterns; slightly changing the focus point changes the sharpness and can help to remove moir?. Change lens focal length Different lenses or focal length settings can be used to alter or remove moir? Remove with software Nikon Capture (as well as several third-party, Adobe® Photoshop® plug-ins) can be used to remove any moir? that does appear in the final image. Of course it may not be possible to remove all moir? in all cases, but in general an overall clean, sharp image with slight moir? is preferred over a soft focus image. Moir? can happen with images from all digital cameras and scanners, but is more likely to happen with an SLR-type digital camera system because the lens, sensor and software are designed to produce the sharpest, most accurate image possible. When reviewing images to see if moir? is present be sure to be looking at the image on the computer screen (or the camera's LCD) at the full, 100% view. If you zoom out on-screen a false moir? can be produced by the pattern of the monitor grill.
