(In the future, please respond on your the same page as your original question).

Look in the lower left corner of your LCD. You should see a letter (L, M1, M2, or S) and a shape to the left of it. If not, press the Display button until you do. Then follow the instructions on the previous response.

When taking pictures or trying to do anything it keeps saying busy with a hand how do we fix this?

I had the same thing with my 105. I've changed the IS mode from "Continuous" to "Shoot only" and the hand with line through it icon with "Busy" has gone. Maddening how they don't mention it in the manual - Happy Christmas!

How do I take black and white photos using a canon powershot?

Place the camera in P, Tv, Av, M, Movie, or Stitch-assist mode. Press the Func/Set button, and scroll down to the "My Colors" icon on the left side (second or third icon down, should show "My Colors Off" at the bottom of the LCD). Now use the left/right buttons to select "B/W", and press the Func/Set button again.

There is a red & white icon at the top of camera blinking. It is not the battaries. This icon is no where in the book that came with camera. This camera is powershot a560

Does the icon look roughly like an oval with a diagonal line through it? On some other models, this is a warning that the date battery needs to be replaced. I couldn't find the icon in the book either, but there are directions on pages 106 and 107 for replacing this battery. The battery is a button type, CR1220.

What is the hand icon on the bottom right side of my camera mean? (It's not the shaking camera icon) I can't find it in the user manual anywhere. It's a solid white hand.

See pages 20 and 39 in the manual. According to this, the hand symbol indicates that you have Image Stabilization set in the 'Continuous' mode (always on). The other modes available are 'Shoot Only', 'Panning' and 'Off'. You select the desired mode at 'IS Mode' on the Menu for Record (camera silhouette at the top) .

Brand-new Canon Powershot SX120 IS and have put in the batteries and card included in the pack. All seems to be working normally - EXCEPT the screen is continually dark and not showing anything the camera...

I am not sure if this advice will work for your model, but it does work for other Canon models.

There is a DISP button on the back. When you push it in, it will turn off the LCD display. Hit it again, and it will keep the display off but show the on-screen icons. Push it again, and the LCD will turn back on. I may be wrong about the order it cycles, but it will cycle through the various modes.

Good luck.

How do you use the continuous shoot function on canon ixus 70?

These instructions are for the IXUS 70, even though the category is PowerShot SD500/IXUS 700.

1. Press the down arrow (bottom of main control button)
2. Press the up or down button until you see the icon for continuous shooting, which looks like three squares overlaid on each other.
3. Shoot your pictures. As long as you keep the shutter button depressed, the camera will continue to shoot until the memory card is full.

To return to single frame shooting, follow steps 1. and 2. but select the single square in step 2.

Flashing icon when taking pics

Based on the settings that your camera is in, it is telling you that you are at risk of camera shake. This is just telling you that you can expect to see a blurry picture if you continue to take that picture and that it will slow down the shutter speed to achieve the proper exposure and that is why you are at risk of camera shake. The longer the shutter is open, the more chance that you are going to move so to solve this you have a few options:
  • turn up ISO
  • use tripod
  • use flash
Hope this helps!
