This is serious. Don't use the mower till it is fixed. Probably the carburetor has malfuntioned and may need to be removed, disassembled and possibly rebuilt. Major flooding is ocurring somehow either by the carb or a mechanical failure of the engine.

Troybilt push mower will not start

Might be bad gas. Empty tank refill with fresh gas with Stabile. Might have to remove carb bowl clean and reinstall. Flush out tank with a little gas before refilling, disconnect fuel line to flush.

Newly purchased Troybilt snowblower. I don't know anything about these machines, but filled the oil tank and gas tank, started it up and it started but seems to be blowing lots of white smoke. Is this...

This is not normal. You either have overfilled it with oil (check the engine oil level when cold) or there is water in the fuel system. Hopefully no real damage has occured (engine) and you can rectify this situation. I recommend (using in cold weather) a multi-viscosity synthetic oil be used. Synthetic is far superior to regular oil.

Weird under load symptom briggs 17.5

a couple other checks would be to dump the carb resevoir where the float is, water under the float could be accumulated and closing the fuel off, due to density. out here on the farm we never use the gas to the last drop from the can. also the linkage between the motor fan blade, (govenor) might have been connected to the carb incorrectly. or a bad switch interlock on the mower blade.
some briggs motors are hooked wrong straight from the factory, where the throttle linkage is concerned. ( and the little spring is pretty hokey too)

Gas/ oil mixture

If it is a riding lawn mower it is probably not a two cycle engine so there would not be a gas oil mixture. It must be a 5 horse power or higher so it would use straight gas. I hope this will help you. donnyb60
