Question about Gilmour No. Xp30 3 - Gal. Premium Tank Sprayer

Open Question

Pump does not build pressure. I suspect catastrophic failure of pump piston. Pressure was building in tank while I was pumping, but pump handle suddenly lost all resistance in the downward stroke.

SOURCE: Tank will not pressurize after pushing the pump

the reason it might not pressurize is there might be a hole in your tank or hose to the spraier itself if it has holes in the hose get a new one put it on the tank and handle. if hole in the tank duct tape it or seal it with a sealent. but it wont pressurize with a hole because the air comes in and out of the hole. hope this helps you

If in the past your system can build-up pressure up to 40 psi even if the supply valve is open and water is being used in your house, then your pump impeller maybe already worn out that's why its pumping capacity was reduced.

I have a porter cable compressor, but the pump won't shut off, and the pressure won't build it

Hi

Here are a few things to check, you may have already checked some of these.

*Electricity...Compressors will run best with full 115Vot 15AMP/Or 220V electrical supply from a circuit, over the shortest electrical cord as possible.

*Air Leaks..Place your ear close to the compressor and listen for air leaking, if you hear air that is not normal and means you have to locate and repair whatever it is that is leaking.
*Check the air unloader valve... The air unloader valve will blown out air when you turned off the compressor, that is normal.
But it should not have air leaking out of it all of the time. If so then it is faulty and in need of repair/replacement.
*Valves...If either the intake or exaust valves fail, breaks, or fails to seat, then your compressor will run 24 hours a day and never build up to the correct pressure for shut-off.
*Gaskets...Check to see if your gaskets have failed.
You could have a gasket failure between the pistons and you will never know it because it shows no external air leak.
If this situation happens then the air will only cycle between cylinders and never build up the correct air pressure.
One way to check the gasket is remove the air filter, then put your hand over the intake.
If correct then it will **** you hand against the intake.
If the valve or valves have failed then you will feel the air sucking in and blowing out.
*Piston Rings and Cylinder...The piston rings could be stuck, broken, or worn and not allowing the correct pressure to build up in your tank.
A worn cylinder will also contribute to the problem of pressure build-up.
*Pressure Switch...Check for air leaks at the pressure switch, it has a rubber diaphram that can fail and leak air out of the system.
Please take time to rate me

Cf2600 won't build pure pressure. Could air intake be stopped up. Had dirt dobber stop up on older compressor. Where is air intake. Can't locate.

No there is not a filter. Since the pump is enclosed in the plastic covers there would not be a way to service it. Now if it is not building any pressure then it could be a few things. First would be the drive belt. (item 125) If it breaks then it won't pump at all. Also if the air hose that exits the pump (item 122) gets a hole in it then it won't fill the tank. A worn head valve plate (item 106), blown gasket (item 105), or a worn piston and sleeve (items 109 and 112-2) can also cause this. If the check valve into the tank (item 16) gets stuck open it too will limit how much the compressor will pump BUT usually it will build up some pressure then just keep running without building any higher pressure into the tank.

Here is a parts diagram so you can see where the belt and other parts are located plus it contains all of the part numbers.

2005 V-6 mustang , fuel pump will not run

it's designed to only run until it builds a specific pressure. once the pressure is reached it turns off. if the car isn't running and you suspect the fuel pump drop the tank take the fuel pump out. use two pieces of wire and hook it straight to the battery and see if it continues to run. if it run continuously thats is not your problem as it will continue to run trying to build up pressure but it won't be able to considering it's not in an air tight system

I have a husky scout 1.5 gallon air compressor. It only builds pressure to about 38 psi. It doesn't build up any more pressure.

You have either warped or broken reed valves on the valve plate or a broken piston ring and/or a damaged cylinder. Any of these will allow a small amount of air compression but as the tank gets pressure in it, it gets harder to push more air into it. If the reed valves or piston to cylinder seal is compromised more and more air will leak past the bad reed or the piston as the pressure goes up in the tank. You'll have to disassemble the air pump to find out what's damaged and needs replacing.

Lid does not seal---very loose

If sprayer doesnt seal against pressure, I suggest check cover gasket A (image 1). Check pump cylinder gasket B (image 2) and additionally, check the procedure if pump dont build pressure. on how to remoce pump cylinder on follow lines.

If pump doesnt build pressure... in most instances, failure of the pumo to build air pressure in the sprayer is due to dry or worm plunger cul leather. To work on cup leather, always remove plunger from pumo cylinder. Do not attempt to oil cup leather through breather hole in **** cap.

First, unthread pumo cap A (image 1). If cap is too tight, and if pumo will build even slight temporary pressure, pressurizing the tnak will make it easier to loosen cap. Once cap is lossened, release tank pressure. Hold pump cylinder by inserting hand through tank filler openning (image 2), and unscrew cap all the way. Pull plunger from cylinder, and remove cylinder from inside the tank.

Place a few drops of clea oil (not heavier than SAE 30) on leather, and massage into leather until it is soft. Replace plunger cup leather if damaged (image 3). to remove plunger leather assembly, use coin rather than screw driver in the slot of the plunger cup retainer. To reassemble, hold pump cylinder in tank openning, with squared edge of flange, at top of cylinder, toward tank wall.

Hope this helps to solve it.

I have a craftsman dual tank air compressor and it only builds up pressure to 20 psi. I have checked the valve reeds and they are not cracked or broken. I can't feel any leaks while it is running. ...

Were the gaskets in fine shape? If you get a tear in the middle of the head or valve plate gasket, where it separates the intake and exhaust, then the pump will only build up pressure to the range you have or sometimes up to only the 50psi range.

Another thing to check is if it has a one way check valve that goes into the tank where the pump line/hose feeds from the compressor pump into the tank. Many of the check valves use a simple plastic cup and a spring. If they get stuck open then that will also make it not build up pressure.

The other part I can think of is the control box but usually when they fail they either won't turn on the unit or they will leak air.

The last thing to check would be the piston ring(s) and cylinder/sleeve. The oil less compressors will wear these items out far more often then an oil style will. When the oil less piston and sleeve get scored up (from dirt ingestion) then they also will not build up much pressure.

Coleman lantern doesn't appear to be pressurisig when priming with the pump as a result it doesn't light. I have checked for blockages and there doesn't appear to be any. Any thoughts

After verifying enough fuel in the tank, if you have turned the pump plunger handle counter clockwise 1/2 turn or so and cover the hole in the pliunger with your thumb while pushing it in, lift thumb off the hole while pulling it out and the pump is not building pressure, you can apply a few drop of oil to the plunger oil hole. If it still won't build pressure, Loosen the tank fill cap slowly to release any pressure that may be built up and turn the pump retaining ring to the left and remove the pump unit. Inspect the plunger cup for deterioration or cracks. replace partsasnecessary. Should be available where lanterns are sold.
