Question about Dynex 400-Watt ATX CPU Power Supply

1 Answer

I have an Acer Apire AX1700-U3700A (E2220). The power supply went bad and I am trying to replace it with a Dynex DX-400WPS. I know that the size is different and doesn't fit in aspire's box (this is no big deal for me). I just need the computer to work so I can access some of the programs and data. Thanks

Thank you. Those are some great videos. I should have explained a little more, however. I plugged everything in and nothing happens. Well, I do see a flicker of light on the PC when I turned on the new power supply. However, the computer does not turn on.

    Lee,

So if the Hard drive was damaged that would keep the computer from turning on? Is there anyway to test if the hard drive is working or not? Thanks

Yes and no. I was hoping that I had just installed the power supply incorrectly, but since my motherboard was probably damaged as well, there was no good solution. Leetheduece was very helpful, though. THanks

Then all you need to do is replace the same connections with the connections that are currently plugged in and then plug in the hard drive, dvd drive power cables as well, just look at the plug you disconnect and then plug in that cable with the new power supply you can have the power supply sitting outside of the computer it doesn't really matter just make sure you all the power cords plugged in including their should be small one for the processor fan.
here are a couple videos that should help you;

Ok, well when your power supply "went bad" are you sure there weren't more issues with the computer? I would suggest if you need to get the data off, to just remove the hard drive and either install it in another computer and then transfer the data to a thumb drive, or get an external hard drive hook up and you can then plug the hard drive into usb through that transfer cable and then pull the data off the drive. It sounds like there is an issue with the motherboard itself on your acer. Here is a link to an example of hard drive to USB transfer cable:

No, I believe the problem is with the motherboard not the hard drive. Hopefully the hard drive should be fine, and shouldn't damage a computer if you installed it internally into it. Your other option is the external cable I showed you.
    Thank you,

  1. Check your computer is getting power, (reconnect power from outlet)
  2. if power is ok, then open your computer cabinet, disconnect motherboard power (24 pin), then make short Green and Black wires and check power supply fan is working or not, (Switch off computer when disconnecting)
  3. if fan is not working replace power supply (SMPS) and check (working fan means SMPS is ok, but in some occasions Fan may work in defective SMPS )
  4. if the power section is ok you need check you mother board

I have an ACER AX1700-u3700a that does not power on. Checked the basics; cable, power outlet is good....Opened the PC and noticed that when the power button is pressed, the CPU fan moves slightly then...

If it was an intermittent problem, like the computer would turn on 1 out of every 4 attempts WITH the video card in, then MAYBE it's a bad power supply. With everything you have said though, it definitely just sounds like a bad video card. I have burned out 2 video cards myself and had to replace them, so I wouldn't be shocked that you have a bad one because they seem to go out more often than power supplies.
Replacing either component can be pretty costly, so if you want to test the hardware before you go off and buy new hardware, I would try to borrow a working power supply of equal or greater wattage and try to run your computer with that and your current video card. To see if you can get it going, but I'm betting the video card melted somewhere.

My acer ax1700 u3700a will not turn on. I think it is the power supply, but I'm not sure

When I had this problem it turned out to be my video card (unless my p/s is on its way out and just won't power the video card anymore). Removed the video card and switched to onboard VGA and it boots fine. Had no Win7 Aero though so I went into bios and set it to onboard VGA and UMA 256 instead of Auto and my Aero is back as well.

My acer ax1700 u3700a will not turn on. I think

When you turn it on, does it respond? Do any lights lit up? Do you have a known good ac adapter to try it with? Or is the ac adapter you are using lits up and/or powering on a different computer?Try to test both to check the functionality of the ac adapter and the port. If ac adapter will work with a different pc, then possibly the port is damaged. You may need to replace the motherboard. If still it wont turn on, then you may just need to replace the ac adapter.

BIOS is brought up by hitting F2 or in some cases the delete key. F12 is normally for bringing up the boot menu, whether you want to boot from the dvd or the hard drive. Try F2 or the delete key

Any power supply with the same pins will do. Just choose a good brand and with same rating or better higher(400 watts or more).
