Question about Craftsman 3 gal. Air Compressor, 1.5 hp, Horizontal k

1 Answer

Check air compressor in the garage. Took it inside and plug it in. Nothing. What would possibly cause it to work one second, then not the next?

You have to start at the beginning. your outlet, cord, motor breaker, the on off switch on the comp that trips the comp off at a set pressure. if you know how to use a volt ohm meter that would be good to check the cord and breaker. some time the pressure switch contacts will arc and burn a little and then don't make good contact.

Without a compressor analizer you will need to check the winding
resistance. or you can just cross your fingers and hope the relay
and start capacitor are the problem. Sounds like the condenser coil was plugged so you could possibly have a locked up compresor.I doubt it is low on refrigerant charge.

I have a GE side by side Refrigerator Freezer in my garage and this morning I opened up the refrigerator side and it was very hot inside. The Freezer side was fine. What is the problem?

make sure both fans on unit condensor and evaporator are operating,if so then check and make sure compressor is operating,if not it could be the ptc overload relay on the compressor or possibly the main board located behind a silver panel in the rear of the unit

My compressor since new, at times will leak air from under the cover while the pump is running and after it cuts off. Sometimes works perfect. Took it apart and could not see a problem. Any suggestion

There is a check valve that is wired into the on off switch. If there are no air leaks when the unit is not running then it is normal. The other possibility is a leak where the rubber hose conncets to a metal tube inside the plastic housing.

I have an older 33 gallon horizontal craftsman compressor. In December I turned the compressor on in my unheated garage when the temp had been in the 20's for days. It seemed to run normally at first. Then...

It sounds like the pressure safety valve could be acting up. It is designed to open when the tank pressure it too high and they don't always reset until the pressure is down to nothing. Some models have them included on the gauge manifold and some on the top of the tank under the cover. It is also possible that the upper limit on the motor switch is set a little too high which would also cause the valve to "pop" before the compressor shuts off.

We have a roper rs22cfxt000 side by side as a second refrigerator in our garage. The GFI that it is plugged into tripped. We reset the GFI and the refrigerator lights come back on but the compressor will...

It is possible that the garage is too cold for the refrigerator to operate correctly. The GFI trip might be due to water getting into the compressor's connection box caused by a freeze-back. This is a really common problem with garage refrigerators in cold weather. Better in a basement where it's not subject to hot summer or cold winter temperatures. A stable environment is best, a garage is a poor place for a common refrigerator. Energy unwise as well.

My 95 camry 4 cyl. dies and or sputters when idling in drive or reverse, it does this sometimes in park too. There is no check engine light on. What is my problem?

solution one:

If your driving in your car and it suddenly dies for no reason. That usually means that the air bag kill switch stopped working. Some kind of safety device to kill the engine.

This is what happened to me I was driving in my car home from work and everything is perfect one minute and then the car DIES!!! The next morning took it to my mechanic and he looked under the hood for 4 hours and found nothing. It wasn't doing it that day. I was insisting that my car was not working properly and the mechanic said he found nothing in the diagnosis. Then I was leaving and the darn air bag light came on. I went back in to the garage that minute. He took the car back in and found the problem within one hour. It was the darn air bag switch.

solution two:

Check the Distributor Cap and Rotor. Check Spark Plugs and wires. Replace if necessary.

solution three:
Check Air filter and fuel filter. Replace if necessary.

solution four:

This is the most expensive solution but if all else fails Change the Control Computer. Garage will charge around $500.

Weird, usually the pressure cut out switch, if you manually "bridge" this (only briefly say 4 secs) the a/c should work, sometimes a plugged/blocked condensor or evaparator will cause this . Also look at engine related temp switches, example water, as these are designed to overide and turn off the ac if the car gets too hot etc.
1)Bridge switch
2) ? oil level in compressor (seized??)
3) temp switches,
4)double check that the system is not blocked, coz if it is then the compressor will only go briefly and then stop due to "overpressure"
