Try pressing the bar above the touchpad. That bar will enable and disable the touchpad.

if not then open the laptop up.
see below link for help with that:

Check the ribbon cable that attaches the touchpad for corrosion a little cleaning will at times fix them especially of something was spilled on them.

If that does not fix it then hook up an external usb mouse to get you by until you can order a replacement touchpad.

If a replacement of the touchpad does not fix it then it may be the motherboard that needs replacement. good luck.

If this is the touchpad, try to reinstall the touchpad driver. You can uninstall it through the device manager while using an external mouse, then download the latest driver from your system manufacturer's web site. After that, make sure the touchpad is enabled and if this does not work, you may need a replacement touchpad, though you may also try system restore or OS reinstall.

Mouse stopped working on Compaq Presario CQ57

The Touch pads the Mouse Pointer uses is pressure sensitive and sometimes without warning WILL fail to work I own a CQ50 And Have a On Off Option for the mouse pad Yours does not Apparently it Is a bad sensor If you have a warranty send it in If not best suggestion for you is buy a USB mouse and use it Otherwise trying to have it replaced without a warranty can be costly.

Arrow keys, Enter, Tab, and the Windows key are the main control keys. However, Windows should recognize any generic USB mouse you plug in, and automatically install the drivers for it.

Can I disable the touchpad double click feature on

You can go to the control panel and click on Mouse. Look at the top tab and click on settings. The window that comes up shoes the touchpad device, highlight it and click on the settings button. Look at the list of options and click on tapping. Look for the little box and uncheck if it says enable tapping. This will disable the tapping function of the pad, so you will only be able to scroll with the pad and click with the buttons. Click apply and ok.

I am using my phone to ask this question.

Hello,

the touch pad is usually controlled by synaptic.

To turn it on back, press start menu from your key board and scroll to control panel.

From control panel, use the tab button to select the icons on control panel and go to mouse.

From mouse, use your keyboard to control to device settings.

From device settings, you would see synaptics touch pad, then press enable and that's all.

You touch pad would then be enabled again.

All the best.
