Tape detection is probably a result of having installed MSBackup. When you installed MSBackup it installs three virtual device drivers one or more of which is causing you your start-up problems. I would suggest removing or renaming the following files to stop tape detection at startup.
You might also want to remove/rename:
Boot Log Analyzer should tell you which of the above vxds is causing you your problems; I seem to recall that the usual culprit is drvwq117.vxd.
