Rattling noise

Ed, that is a tough one to diagnose from here, possible bad U joint on drive shaft, loose exhaust baffle if in the area, best to take it into a reputable shop and have them diagnose and estimate repair.

Sound is muffled

This may be exactly how it was designed, large TVs are usually made to be connected to a sound system or sound bar to get decent sound.
Check that there is no dust in the speakers, when sound is up slap the speaker area, if you hear a rattle or any change there may be dust or dirt in the speaker area, use a vacuum cleaner to remove it through the speaker grille.

I want to disconnect the factory sub-woofer from the factory radio.

generally the speaker cover panel will 'pop' off with a little gentle prying, giving access to the speaker itself which will allow you to simple pull the wire leads. I would suggest taping them so they don't cross and cause hiss in your system or rattle inside the speaker containment area.

When i play certain bass, like mainly highs, but not all highs, my speaker seems to rattle. no im not an idiot. i know subwoofers rattle stuff when you have them on. i know almost all there is to know...

It is possible to overdrive a speaker beyond what it can handle.

DO NOT BELIEVE the spec sheets regarding power and capabilty, especially those for automobile amps and speakers.

If the cone moves too far, the voice coil leaves the active area of the magnetic field and the speaker will "rattle".

The speaker AND its enclosure may be resonating at particular frequencies.

If these things are happening, you will permanently damage the speakers.

Rattle under the front end?

The rattle may be stabilizer link rod bushings or a strut mount loosening up as for the engine light you must hook up a code reader to determine the problem otherwise you may be replacing parts blindly.

Rattle in rear os boot area

Hi John

If it has only materialized since the shunt, and the associated repairs, I suspect this is the area to look in.

Possibly, they have not adjusted the boot lid lock striker correctly, and this being a little on the loose side, is giving the rattle ?

Normally if you get a grip of the boot lid, and jiggle it up and down, you can hear a rattle.

Also check that the exhaust has not been shunted forward, and is fouling somewhere, as this will give you a rattle too.

Good Luck !
