Short Protect Problem

Hi, I'm having the same exact problem on my 55". So where you able to solve the problem. Can you tell me exactly what I need to do. I'm handy, but I have no idea what to do here with Caps, diodes and what now. Is it worth it to have it fixed?

The problem is usually a failing or faulty DM board which can be fixed with replacing the 4 bad capacitors...OR...if you cant solder it yourself, a repair facility may charge 250.00 or so and takes about a week turn around time.

The other option is buying a replacement board either from Sears or Mitsubishi from 350.00 and up.

Hope you have good luck. If I can help anymore, let me know.

IT WONT TURN ON AND BLINKS 3 TIMES

3 blinks is short protection and it usually means one of the protect resistors around the two STK-392-110 convergence chips is gone.

Total parts cost here will be under 25 dollars (I can tell you where) and this can be a do it yourself repair.

I have start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair that tell you everything you will need and EXACTLY how to do it.

The instructions are free. Let me know if you want them and we will find a way (email?) to get them to you.

If this told you something you did not know or you want the instructions rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Feel free to comment here and let me know.

LIGHT FLASHES 2THEN A PAUSE THEN 2

I think I already tried to help you.

2,2 is short protection--98% chance one of the two pico fuses that protect the convergence circuit are bad.

This means the fuses and both STK-392-570 chips need to be replaced.

If you reply to this post I can post step by step instructions and photos of the fuses and the chips.

ALL PARTS NEEDED ARE ON THE MIDDLE CIRCUIT BOARD AND TOTAL PARTS COST SHOULD BE UNDER 30 DOLLARS--I can tell you a seller on EBAY WHERE I BUY MY PARTS.

22 is short protect usually its the convergence Ics in that model that can short out. check fuses F9A04 and F9A05 if they are open its most likely the convergence ICs that need repslacing. If you need further assistance, please reply to this same post.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source)

Need detailed instruction

No. Usual procedure== Check the IC's that are mounted to
the large heat sink on center circuit board.Part # Stk392-570 X 2.
Check fuses FA904 & FA905 in power supply-replace,if open.
If either fuse is bad, replace both convergence IC's.
If both fuses check good and both IC's check good with your
meter, then check all the other fuse devices in power supply.
After that, advanced diagnosis by an experienced TV tech might be needed.

Tv powers on and goes off after about 3 seconds

This set has a problem in the horizontal sweep circuit or in the main power supply. Most likely a failed component, and the set shut down to protect the rest of the circuit. If you know how to read a schematic diagram and how the circuits operate, then you will need a good multimeter and an ESR type capacitor checker to find out the short in this set. Sometimes the CRTs(Picture Tubes) will leak the coolent fluid out and onto the printed circuit boards. Also sometimes the convergence IC's can cause this problem, but if that is the case the small little pico fuses will pop also. If you have had no solid state or printed circuit repair experience, play it safe and call in a trained tech. Good Luck
