The first thing to understand is that all the cooling in a conventional frost free refrigerator usually originates in the freezer compartment, just a small portion of that air is circulated through the fridge compartment to cool there. (Technically the opposite is true. Warm air is circulated into the freezer compartment where its heat is removed by the refrigeration process leaving behind cooled air.) In any case, if that air flow is hampered in any way, cooling problems will result. The second thing you need to know is that the compressor (large black dome at the rear of the refrigerator) provides all the cooling ability for the whole appliance. It has to be running in order for any cooling to take place. As long as the compressor is running, the possibilities listed below will need to be checked one at a time. If the compressor is not running or continually trying to start but failing within seconds, clicking and then shutting down, someone will need to look into why. That alone is likely the cause of your cooling problems. There are lots of things that can cause cooling problems. One of the most common causes of poor cooling in a frost free refrigerator is a defrost system failure. In such a case one or the other compartment may appear to be keeping proper temperature but that too may change in a short period of time. The fridge compartment's temperature rise is usually (but not always) the first to be noticed. The Defrost SystemInspecting the (usually rear) wall of the freezer compartment for a frost build up is necessary. If there is a frost coating on it, it is often a sign of excessive frosting beneath it. Sometimes however the evaporator cover panel will actually need to be removed .
the evaporator coils never go bad or faulty mostly it only stops working if the over load of ice frost gets collected in between the coil and the evaporator fan due to things the coil actually does not get required hot and this makes freezer bit more cold and refrigerator very low cooling or may be hot. also the other air ventilations gets blocked due to evaporator coils stop working .to resolve this issue the only best option is to empty the fridge/freezer unit and unplug the unit from main power out let keep the door open of the unit and leave it for 24 hours this melts all the collected ice in the coil as well as in the air ventilation area. after that clean the inner area of unit with a dry cloth and then plug in the connection and turn the unit ON keeping the temperature at normal settings. then check out after two hours if the unit works proper the evaporator coil was the fault and that got cleared from the unit by defrosting .but if the problem is same as before after two hours when you check then its defrost timer faulty in the unit
now i will explain what is defrost timer .the defrost timer is the part which controls the cooling and defrosting in refrigerator .it actually spins as the coldness in the unit. after the temperature reaches to certain coolness it spins back wards and defrosts .if the defrost timer is faulty it will not spin properly and all cooling and defrosting system of the unit will get misaligned. if the timer gets faulty the cooling will reach till over frost and then the fan the coils in the unit will get blocked due to ice built-up and over current will be exerted by the unit to melt that ice. and in this melting ice procedure without defrost timer the unit stops completely .it can effect any section lower or upper or may be both. so the defrost timer at present needs replacement. its like a mini plastic box . color is mostly black or white or creamish . the cost of timer is near to $40.

SOURCE: kenmore elite refrigerator, model # 59676534500

I went ahead and signed up for Sears' service warranty since I knew I had to get someone to come out.  IT costs $200/yr.  They say it covers everything, but when the technician came out, he told me that it just covers $500 per visit.  He said that a new motherboard and the labor alone was going to make it $498.  Anyway,   he had ordered a new motherboard. Apparently the motherboard wasn't working.  It is located in the back bottom left side of the refrigerator behind the panel.  There is a compartment on the lefthand side that slides out and houses the motherboard.  He put that in and also had to fix the fan that is in the back of the freezer.  That fan is the one that sends cool air up to the refrigerator part. When I had looked at the fan before the repair man came, it was not moving at all.  So at least take a look at the fan in the freezer.  Just take out the freezer drawers, and the fan is located in the top center of the freezer behind the compartment cover.  Maybe that's the problem with your refrigerator, the fan.  Hope that's all it is. Good luck!

SOURCE: My whirlpool refrigerator (Model ET18DK) does not cool

Most likely one of two conditions are the root of the problem. Either the fan in the freezer is stalled or the defrost system has failed. The fan in the freezer should run any time the comressor is running; if it's not, there's your problem. If you can hear the fan, check for frost or snow developing across the back panel in the freezer. Local repair service could probably supply replacement parts quickly for defrost failures (most likely a bad terminator if defrost system isn't working).

SOURCE: bottom of refrigerator is not cooling

Hi: Is your freezer so full it's blocking the vents? If so unblock the vents. If not put your food in a cooler, frozen and fresh. Unplug your refrigerator. Take a hair dryer to the back of the freezer to melt frost accumulated behind the panel. I know it's supposed to be frost free. You have a problem with the defrost heater or the timer. The frost is blocking the vents. Most likely it is the later, but if you see no frost it could be the circulating fan. The location of these will be in your parts list. Kenmore still gives these with their products. If you don't have it go to sears.com and use parts direct. They will have a diagram. I hope this helps, Jeff By the way, If you are not handy just do the hair dryer thing and it will work for a weed or two until the frost plugs it up again.

very good chance it is the same problem or possibly a leak of refrigerant due to joint failing where compressor is joined to pipework
