I cleaned the drum recommended in the manual, but the print copy still has a dirty-looking page with the printed text. What else can I do?

Sometimes it takes a few pages to clear up after cleaning.

Have you tried a different toner cartridge to verify that the problem is not with the installed cartridge?

Vertical Lines through incoming faxes and copies.

Sometimes you may see vertical streaks/black lines
on the faxes you receive. Either your FAX/MFC's
primary corona wire for printing may be dirty, or
the sending party's fax scanner may be dirty. Clean
your primary corona wire (see pages 13-18), or ask
the sender to make a copy to see if the problem is
with the sending machine.
Cleaning the Drum Unit
We recommend you place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of
disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering toner.
1 Carefully turn the drum unit upside down.
2 Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tab
from right to left several times.
3 Return the tab to the Home
position ( ) before
reinstalling the drum unit.

I own a Sharp Al-1655CS about 2 yrs old, I have a problem, the balck toner powder is exiting the back of the machine and copies are very light. The copy count shows 12,000 copies made. I have repalced the...

These are very good machines so I would see no reason to replace it. Do you have the operators manual? If so look up the setting for "toner save mode" and make sure it is NOT turned on.
The drum unit is good for at least 18,000 pages so I would not suspect the drum. I even reset the counters on the drum units and can get up to 36,000 pages on them. Do you have the machine hooked to a PC for printing? If so is there any difference between printer density and copy density? If so then the issue is with the scanner density setting. If the copy and prints are both light then it is a print engine problem. If several toner cartridges are doing the same light print then I would suspect that your laser scanner optics are dirty. There is a narrow strip or slot just above the drum unit that the laser beam goes thru to write the image onto the drum. This should be cleaned and then the machine re-tested. If no improvement is see then the machine will have to be dis-assembled and cleaned which would require a compentant service technician.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Horizontal lines and tones specks around text

Only known causes are a dirty corona wire or a dirty/bad drum. If you know the drum is good, a thorough cleaning of the drum and cleaning the corona wire should clear up your printing.

Bad photo quality after changing drum

your laser printer
1) print color quality is now distorted that means print skew (technician called)
2) print tint means the print color not enough density,
3) print mottle means print dirty
you may try
1) print distorted--- find out the skew adjustment from your printer manu, it is adjust the image before transfer to the drum.
2) print skew could be happened when the drum replace install not very accurate, so install it more carefully.
3) print tint---you may increase print density from the manu, not fix,
4) print tint---the toner caridge near life cycle or using the less compatible toner. so you have change the quality toner or cartridge (if near life cycle) to improve quality photo print
5)print mottle---toner quality ? or cartridge near life cycle also cause print dirty paper,

PRINTING IS DARK

Dark copies (whole pages) are usually a result of poor charge of the drum. Drum is that green thing (usually, seen blue ones too). You get text and graphics in places, where the drum has been discharged (light discharges drum). So if everything is dark - the drum is discharged fully, or not charged at all. Look for bent, dirty or missing connector plates, springs, paper covering contacts. If you get lines it could also be the fuser (hot thing) - needs replacing. Everything depends on how the copy looks like, I would have to see it. Hope this is helpful somehow ;-)

Printing line on each copy

Most likely there is something on the seal glass, Open the feeder and look at the small strip of glass, see if it is dirty.
the other possibility is that there is a streaking problem in the drum cartridge or in the fuser in that area.
Start with the glass, then look at the drum, You will most likely find the problem on one of those 2 areas.
I really suspect a small spot on the glass where the paper passes over when making the copy through the feeder

Print with vertical print gap on entire page

There are a couple of issues here.
1 You may, unlikely but may have a bad drum cartridge.
First thing to try though, is to print out a report.
Billing meter report, system settings, any report and see if the defect it still there on a print.
If it is, then you have either a drum or laser issue.
If it is not on the printed report, the problem is in the scanner. Most likely just a dirty mirror.
If it occurs on the printed reports, remove the toner and look into the left hand area of the machine. There is a slot about 6 inches wide and about 5/16th in height, see if there is anything in that path. That is the laser opening. If there is an obstruction there, then remove it. Take a cloth or q tip and clean that slot.
the laser itself may be dirty.
But here once again.
If you run a report and the defect IS on the image. You have a drum or laser problem,
If you run a report and the defect IS NOT on the page, then you have a scanner issue.
