Question about Olympus FE-190 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Format problem I have had my camera for about a year now and the other day I had put my memory card into my laptop (lost usb cord so I just take the memory card out of my camera and plug it into my laptop). Upon doing that it told me I needed to format my disk and I said no, so then I take out the memory card and I put it back into my camera and my camera tells me I have to format my disk, so reluctantly I did. Well now it will let me take about three pictures then it will freeze and wont do anything so I have to remove the battery and turn it back on and when I do that it tells me I have to reformat my disk again...any help PLEASE..

The first thing you should do is get a new USB lead.

while your waiting for your new lead:
1)find out if your laptop crashes with that card, or with any cards/devices.

2)try putting the card into another computer.

3) if you have a compatable printer- put your card in there and try to print your photos.
(if you want them on your laptop- scan them in)

if the other devices or cards work with your laptop- then it might be a dodgy card

if no cards work, or if other devices cause crashes- it might be a problem with you laptop (like a faulty card reader)

if the card works in a different computer- then it might be a problem with your laptop

if the card dosent work in a different computer- it might be a dodgy card.

Vikram, first of all take no more pictures with the memory card. You'll need to use recovery software to recover your photos. There are very many freeware options for your to choose (here's a short listing with reviews). You'll need to use your computer's card reader with this software. Now AFTER you've recovered your photo's, you'll need to initialize (format) the card in your camera (DON'T use your computer to initialize the card). This will erase the card, but it will also help prevent this instance from reoccurring. Look in your camera's menus for the format option.

If you connected the camera to the computer with a USB cord to download your pics and then just yanked out the cord without using the "safely remove hardware" icon at the bottom right corner of your screen, the card may have been corrupted. Replace it.

Are you able to format the card in the camera. Also the USB cable you probably need is the same as most other mini USB devices.

I have a few pictures on my camera and I want to put them onto my memory card because I lost the usb cord that goes to the camera. Is there a way that I can do that?

The pictures on your camera are almost certainly being written to a memory card that is in the camera. The most common cards are SD, CF, and memory stick. You can buy a USB memory card reader that will read all of these formats for about $10 at any electronics store. Plug the reader in your computer and then just insert your memory card any time you want to get the pictures off the camera and put them on your computer. This is easier than messing with the cables that come with cameras anyway.
