Question about Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 Motherboard

1 Answer

I was on the internet one day and all of the sudden my screen turned black, and I could only see the mouse. I reset the computer and could not boot the system after that. Inserted the Windows XP disk and got about 20 min into the installation when an error along the lines of "can not detect drive" came up. Attempted fixes: I let it sit for a while and tried reformatting the drive again, and could not even get the HD to show up in the BIOS. At this point, I thought the HD was fried, so I went out and bought another one, my computer could still not detect it. I put the new hard drive into my roommates computer, and was able to format the drive and install windows on it, starting to think its a motherboard issue.

Appears to be. The IDE or SATA controllers do occasionally fail on motherboards. I had a Gigabyte one that failed in a similar manner.

My mouse pointer is frozen in the. Middle of the screen

Hello Anthony- do a cold boot on your computer; meaning turn off your computer through the normal shut down process. Wait a few minutes for RAM to clear completely. Start the computer..do you have the same problem? If so, you may have to update the mouse drivers. If you are using a wireless mouse, make sure you replaced the batteries in the mouse and that the mouse receiver is plugged in properly- maybe jostled loose somehow.
If you added new peripherals you may have an IRQ conflict.
Try booting up in safe mode, if the mouse works without freezing, try booting up - initializing one driver at a time to isolate the problem by process of illumination.

Windows 7 boot to black screen with mouse pointer

You should try turning it off, removing power plug and battery from the bottom of the machine (if possible) and the hold the power button for 20 seconds. That'll do an smc reset and a few settings will be reset that help tell the computer how to turn on and load the OS.

See chapter 5, Also read the part about setting or disabling the processor sleep mode, Disable it. IF it boots normally
Go to Start. In the search box type "Device Manager" (without the quotes) - and then press Enter; this will open up the Device Manager. Double click on 'Universal Serial Bus controllers.' Now you will see a list of 'USB Root Hub'. Right-click the top one of these and select 'Properties'. Click on the Power Management tab, un-tick where it says 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' and click 'OK'. Now repeat this action on the other 'USB Root Hub' items in the list. when they are all done you can close the Device Manager, and your USB mouse and keyboard will now be able to re-awake your computer

Black screen with flashing horizontal lines

You may have a bad backlight screen power supply board and that is usually mounted in the bottom part of the screen right behind the front bezel. This supply's high voltage to the backlight tube that lights the screen. This is kind of like a small florescent tube that uses high voltage to fire the backlight and is a common failure point in laptop screens. Easy to fix, just pop the front bezel off and the module will be in the center bottom section of the screen. Do a YouTube search on how to disassemble your model's screen and the parts can be found on Ebay. Good luck.

My mouse disappeared on my hp 9925 screen i did a hard reset now the whole screen is black

If you power on and see the HP bios boot screen, the HP symbol, then the screen goes black, try pushing the F10 or F12 keys when you power on and select boot in safe mode. If the computer boots and you can see everything, power down and see if it will boot correctly to regular Windows. If you can not boot to a screen that you can see in safe mode you have a much larger problem and need to get a technician to look at the laptop to find the problem.
