Question about Cameras

Hello, I just purchased an Agfa Karat 36 and the shutter button won't depress all the way and thus the film advance won't move. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lisa Corrie

If you speak german take a look for
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agfa_Karat#Karat_36

Scroll down to
Benutzungs-Hinweis zur Karat 36

in short: you have to wind the shutter direct above the lens.
Then you can "shoot" with the knob at the top of the camera.

Greetings

Karl

Nikon FM10 will only release shutter with cable

Hello Blair,
I too like old school camera, mine are the N2000, N6006, N80, and F100. First without film in the camera I would attempt to release the shutter. If it does then there is something going on with the film transfer causing a bind.

However, If it continues not to release the shutter I would put the FM10 on the shelf then go to KEH.com for another. Just now checked KEH.com, 2014-05-26, a FM10 in EX condition is $89, EX+ condition $99. That would be a much better move than repairing yours and less expensive.

Cordially

Sounds like your camera could use a cleaning and oiling, I'd suggest sending it off to Gus Lazzari for repair. He does good reliable work to film cameras. Hope this helps.

I purchased a Nikon N60 used. The film will not automatcally load therefore not shoot

Please follow these instructions: 1. Open the camera back 2. Pull the film leader across the red film index mark (red line) 3. Check to ensure film is properly positioned with no slack, then close camera back 4. Fully depress shutter release button to advance to frame 1. Check the rewind lever if it turns counter clockwise when you depress the shutter release button.
Keep on trying this procedure until you get it right. Most of the time, the error is in not pulling the film leader enough to reach the red film index mark.
If you're still having a problem with this, the next best option is to have the camera checked by a competent camera technician.

Film was in camera, frame 18. Batteries had failed at frame 17, had to depress "B Lock" button" and set shutter to 60 to release shutter. Replaced batteries with fresh batteries, battery...

This camera is somewhere between fifteen and thirty years old. It is highly unlikely that spares would be available, and it would be extremely expensive to have it repaired in any case, most artificers familiar with the internal layout having probably retired years ago. Maybe the camera should be retired too ?

Nikon F100 does not advance film to start of roll,

Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.

Takes a picture when film advance lever is moved

The magnets that control the shutter are the likely suspect. Dirt and debris can cause them not to hold properly. Hence, it fires the shutter when you advance the film. It is something you can repair yourself. I can describe the procedure if you are interested.

No shutter/film advance

with electronic cameras, it is the control circuitry. send it for service. your service agent probably will replace the complete pcb as they don't know or wouldn't care to diagnose which minor component went wrong.
