Having received no response to my query in over a month, I assume the problem was in trying to use a microSDHC card in a microSD device.

Hi, Is Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 Silence 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card capable for my Compaq HP Presario SR2020NX? -thanks a lot.

You mean will the Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 with 1GB of graphics memory, work in a Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC?

Yes.

The Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC has a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757470&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=3245048

{Motherboard illustration and photo are towards the bottom of the page}

Look at the specifications.
Scroll down to the heading - Expansion slots.

Three PCI. (PCI expansion slots)

One PCI Express x16 graphics.

NOTE*
Looking at the motherboard illustration, it is Wrong.
Shows - PCIEX1 (PCI E X1)
According to the specifications it is a PCIEX16 expansion slot. (PCI-E x16)

A PCI-Express x1 slot has 36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

In comparison a PCI slot {White} has 124 contact pins. 62 on each side.

Looking at the photo of the supposed PCI-E x1 slot they show, the black PCI-Ex1 slot is longer than the white PCI slots.

It is a PCI-Express x16 slot with 164 pins. 82 on each side.

The Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 uses a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

So you know the graphics card will fit. Low-profile to boot.

Power requirement:
The Compaq Presario SR2020NX desktop computer comes with a 300 Watt power supply.
(Although in actuality it's more like 70 percent of the maximum rated wattage. 210 Watts)

Enough power for the computer, and the graphics card.
ATI graphics cards do not use as much power as a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

Concerned that the Asus graphics card uses DDR3 graphics ram memory, and the Presario SR2020NX uses DDR2 Sdram ram memory?

Don't be. The graphics cards graphics memory runs independent of the computer's ram memory.

Cd and hdd both run on startup... monitor says it is in standby and doesn't display?

  1. Ensure the display is configured to use the input connected (Analog for VGA, Digital for DVI etc. If you are using some sort of an adapter to connect the display, then that could also cause an issue. If possible, try a connection that has no adapter and/or try monitor on another system to ensure it is functional.
  2. Re-seat the video card. Often this can be an issue where just re-seating the card firmly will ensure you have proper connections. If using integrated display then there isn't a lot to do for that. Also ensure that if the system has an expansion graphics adapter, you are not connected to an on-board port as these are normally disabled by an expansion adapter. If you do have both video expansion and on board video, also try removing the expansion adapter an use just the on-board one.

It won't start it is black

Dell systems have built in no post diagnostics, you can check them here:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4282412-find_no_post_diagnostic_information_dell

if the system is completing post, but not showing any display, then you have either a Video Card issue or a monitor issue. Things to check:
  1. Ensure the monitor has the proper input selected for the cable that is connected (VGA, DVI, DisplayPort etc)
  2. Reseat cable connections
  3. If system was recently moved, make sure cable connected to correct Video Card Connection (Some systems have 2, and if an expansion card is inserted, generally on-board video is disabled.)
  4. If still no video and system has both expansion and onboard video, remove the expansion card, try the on-board.
  5. If still no go, try a different monitor
  6. if all the above fails, replace video card

It does not recognize an 8gb sd card in storage expansion.

Your netbook should read SDHC(over 2 GB capacity) memory cards. The problem might be either the card slot driver, Which you should download if a newer one is available. Or in case you format the SD as DOS then it will only have around 2GB of space, You should format it as DOS32 or NTFS so you get the full capacity for the SD card. Some pirated rather cheaper memory cards have a lower actual capacity. With some compression technique the capacity presented is higher than it actually is. If you format it then it will show the real capacity. hope that is not the case!

Good Luck!

  1. Determine if the sound card is integrated or an expansion card (Usually a Soundblaster) If using an expansion card, the integrated audio must be disabled in the BIOS F2 at boot) If no expansion card, then in integrated audio must be enabled.
  2. Once the sound card has been determined, make sure that the master volume control is not MUTED and the WAVE audio is not MUTED
  3. Download and install the latest sound driver from support.dell.com
