If the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the lights on the sensors are on and are not blinking or that one is not dimmer than the other. Check that the 2 solid white wires are connected to terminal #2 and the 2 wires with the black tracer are connected to terminal #3.

Hi. I have a Craftsman 1/2 hp model 53914. The door will not go up or down. Door starts to move, but stops with blinking lights. I have cleaned off the sensors. The sensors do not have lights. I read...

The lights on the sensors must be on for the door to operate properly. If the wiring is okay you need new sensors. I don't know what "tension" means but if you have a control that is tough to turn you have additional problems. Might just be time for a new opener.

I have Sears Craftman 1/2 HP garage door open that want stay shut when you push the remote the sensor wire broke fix that. Now the door goes down and come back up. All sensor are led light are green...

Check the sensors again. Our unit has one amber and one green when working and if something (even a weed) breaks the optical beam it reverses and the lights blink. We've also had bright sunlight interrupt the beam. (The test for this issue is to stand such that you cast a shadow onto the sensor without being in the beam and then attempt to close the door with the remote). Next check if the door is binding during travel. If it is, check the tracks for plumb with a level and make sure the door rollers and tracks are undamaged. If a rail is crimped anywhere, it could be cause the problem. You can find some garage door sales places that sell the track sections and rollers to replace damaged parts. Check your local phone book and call around. In some cases, the door jamb may be damaged (lowering the header and shrinking the entire door area). This may require calling a professional to fix.

If the door itself is moving easily, then it sounds like the door might be hitting the floor too lightly or trying to go past the floor and triggering a safety reverse. On most of the openers, there are several adjustments you can work on to reset this. First try adjusting the down limit to above the floor and then bring it back to the floor. (However, usually these do not make the opener light blink.)

Alternatively, adjust the downward force to a higher value.

Without knowing the model of your Craftsman opener, I'll just use the directions for mine. All of these are adjusted with a flat blade screwdriver. Always test each adjustment with a complete up and down cycle.

The height limit control is on the side. (It's the forward one of two screws inside the cover - you should be able to reach them thtrough holes in the cover. Unfortunately, sometimes it's easier to get to them after removing the cover. The cover is held by 4 screws - 2 on each side.) To decrease the travel, turn the Down screw clockwise. One full turn of the screw is 2" of door travel.

The force controls are on the back with the down adjustment on the right. Turn this clockwise in 10 degree increments and test each time.

It is possible to overheat the opener with too many open and close cycles. In that case stop adjusting the unit and wait 15 minutes for it to cool.

I hope this helps.

Sensor problem with garage door opener. One of them has a yellow light the other a green. The door starts to close than stops. You can close it if you hold the button down inside and the remothe doesn't...

If it moves 6-8 inches and then stops it is most likely the rpm sensor.

Yellow and green are what the lights should be.

Does the led on the wall control blink?? If is does press the lock button.
If it doesn't you will need to reprogram the remote.

Watch the eyes as the door closes, does one of them go off? If so the track may be flexing causing misalignment. (Widen the track near the bottom)

If all of the above don't help check the sensitivity adjustment. Turn it about 1/8 turn clockwise and try the door again - continue this until the door goes full cycle without reversing. If you have to set the sensitivity past 3/4 the door needs to be adjusted.

I have a craftsman garage door opener and I have to hold the button down in order to close the door. The door opens fine and the sensors are clear. The unit starts to close then stops, the lights start...

When you can close the door by holding down the wall button it IS the safety eyes or wiring.

If the eyes are mounted to the track. Many times the track wll move as the door closes causing the eyes to move out of alignment.
Watch as the door moves down and see if they need to be adjusted.

If the eyes are not both lit - they are out of alignemnt or have a wiring problem. try adjusting them and see if the lights come on. - if not check the wiring

Hope this helps

No matter where the door is located on the track when i engage it to the pully and press the button it will go down about 1 a foot and then stops and comes back up about 1 a foot and the lights blink....

There is an adjustment for how much 'torque' the unit is using to lower the door, and if your door is jamming or if this setting is set too low, the door will reverse. There are 4 adjustments on this unit: one for all the way up, one for all the way down, and the one for 'jams'
First: make sure you have BOTH a yellow light on one sensor and a green light on the other sensor. 2nd: Go inside the gararge (keep kids and pets away) and press and HOLD down the close/open button and keep holding it - this is an override for the photoeyes and your door should go all the way down to the close position. IF if doesn't, then you need to adjust the white knob that will allow it to close. It is testing to see if you have a jam, and the setting might be too low, or your door is binding. If these don't help, you'll have to call a pro. Good luck my friend.

There isn't a reset code. It sounds like you may be having a door sensor problem. Is the small light on each sensor lit and not blinking ever so slightly? Does your door start down and then reverse to the open position? Is the door stuck in the open position? Check to make sure the trolley isn't jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If it is then remove the bolt and run the door until closes. Then adjust the up limit on the side of the motor unit. Turn it in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover about 3 turns. Be sure to then replace the bolt.

Garage door opener will not go down.

After reading the responses I went out and looked at the sensors, but this time instead of aligning up and down I moved the one sideways and WOOHOO! the remote works fine now.

Door will not go down

Use a piece of wire to bypass the sensors. if door still goes down and then reverses, you may need to adjust the torque (down pressure) for the door.

Any questions, let me know

Door opener moves foward about 10 inches then returns

UNPLUG THE UNIT FOR ABOUT 5 MIN. TO RESET TRY TO OPERATE IF IT STILL MOVES 6-8 INCHES AND FLASHES 5 TIMES THE RPM SENSOR IS YOUR PROBLEM - COULD JUST BE THE CUP HAS MOVED ON THE SHAFT. IF IT IS IN PLACE AND STILL NOT WORKING REPLACE THE PICKUP.

Door ups and downs

Holding the button down just bypasses the sensors.
Your sensors are not adjusting correctly, or there is a short in the wires.
The back of the machine has a little yellow light, count the flashes and corelate it to the troubleshooting portion of the manual to confirm.

The orange light is a constant, the green sensor needs to be adjusted until you get a solid green light.
