Sounds like hard disk related. turn it off and disconnect the power cord, remove and reconnect both the power and data cables to the hard disk, disconnect any external USB storage and remove any floppy disk, if any. If you get the same result, try to connect the har disk using different power & data cables (IDE/SATA), and test it on another SATA channel if available. If same error, you may need to reformat the hard disk and reinstall WIndows, or you may have to get a new Hard Disk if it fails even when tried on another computer.

#1. Verify there are no disks in the floppy or CD drive.

#2. Get into the BIOS and set everything to default.

#3. Have a friend create a boot disk for you or, if you have a program that is self booting, use that to get in.(i.e. Windows)

Acer aspire d257 pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable error

Your computer tries to "boot" (start-up) from several devices:
* floppy-disk (if installed)
* disk-drive (if not "dead"),
* CD/DVD optical device (if "bootable" media has been loaded)
* PXE --> Pre-Execution Environment -- checks if there is a connection between the network-adapter on your computer to a "boot-server" on your local network -- it can load Windows from that "boot-server".

The "media-test failure" indicates that there is no network-cable attached to your computer *AND* the other-end of the network-cable is *NOT* connected to the "boot-server". So, you can that "error" message.

Is your disk-drive "dead" ????

Sir ,i have acer aspire 4520 laptop .when i boot my laptop it will show message below pxe-e61 media test failure ;check cable existing nvidi boot agent and my laptop loss display for sometime & again...

Usually when a computer displays a "Media Test Failure" message, it is a good indicator that the hard drive is/has failed. The solution would be to replace the hard drive in the laptop.

Aspire One N214 Model # ZG5 keeps showing me a Acer screen before informing me that I have a Media test failure and that it has no bootable device. I have no boot disk it asks for, Please help me!

The media failure means either the hard disk has failed and therefore cannot boot up the notebook.
Try reseating the hard drive first, so it makes proper electrical contact. If it still fails to boot up, then go to the BIOS setup and check to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. The BIOS may have a hard disk diagnostic program, if so then run this program to check the hard disk. If the hard disk is faulty, then a new hard disk is needed and install Windows on this hard disk plus the Acer's device drivers and your programs to get a working computer again.

Media Test Failure, Check Cable.....

This is an Invalid / Non System Disk error.In your Bios settings change the "First boot device" option to your hard disk.If you have only one hard disk set it to "HDD 0"
Other causes of the problem are:

  1. Floppy or CD that is not bootable is currently in the computer.
  2. Hard disk's power or data cable is not connected properly(loose contact)
