Question about Hoover U6311-930 Power Drive Bagged Upright Vacuum

Open Question

We understand that your problem is: I have a Hoover Power Drive Model U6311-930 self propelled vacuum (type with disposable bags). Series E7.8 amps. When turned on it works and vacuums properly but the motor noise is way louder than it should be. Almost sounds like a jet engine. It is very loud. It is not the kind of noiase it makes if it has a object trapped in the brush assembly. I have thoroughly cleaned the unit including changing the bag and cleaning all debris pathways. I have also checked both belts, removed the belts, brush and top housing cover over the motor and removed the clear plastic shroud that directs the dirt to the cleaner to inspect the area in the blower chamber. I have run the motor with the belts and brush removed and it is still just as loud. It is NOT the kind of noise that results from a loose item like a screw running inside the motor, just loud - really loud like something is definitely wrong. I am very mechanical and have a Masters in EE so I am not afraid of attempting a repair, but the only thing I can think of is to replace the motor, which is probably too expensive given the vacuum's age. Any suggestions?.

SOURCE: I have 2 Hoover Wind

The Hoover WindTunnel self propelled is a machine that we see in our retail stores (Vacuums Unlimited) constantly. The benefit of having a supposed "self-propelled" machine wears of quickly after the numerous time you will need to take this machine in for repair.

It's unfortunate you've had to spend so much money already on repairing this machine. I know you've said you've already replace the belts and filters, but if you want you can check out a video we made on repairing the Hoover Windtunnel.

If you are looking for a reliable upright, at GoVacuum we'd recommend the Sebo X4 upright (http://www.govacuum.com/seauxseupvac.html). The machine is incredibly reliable and easy to maintain. Thus far, we haven't had one warranty repairs come through our doors. The machine itself has a lifelong warranty on the belt because the machine automatically shuts off the motor if an obstruction is detected, preventing any undue stress on the motor or belt.

Indentations left on carpet all about 3 inches apart

The indentations that the Hoover U6311-930 self propelled leaves are from the two large wheels of the self propelled system under the bottom of the vacuum. There are two main reasions for this the weight of the vacuum cleaner and that the carpet fiber has worn, do to age, and now shows the tracks. There is no sollution for this problem.

The U6311-903 is a self propelled vacuum. The the small red button will stop the handle from moving back and forth, which makes the machine go foward and backwards. The red button disengages the self propelled feature.

Hoover windtunnel self-propelled - will not turn on

You probably need the switch replaced. It's fairly simple to do youself, and it is a known problem with these vacuums.
You can order the switch from hoover for about $10

Self Propelled does not work

if you look below the headlamp of your vac you will find a cable that attach's to a piece called the actuator arm. either this piece is likely broke or the cable itself. always work the power drive smoothly or things will break. also could be that the smooth belt is stretched and will cause the same problem. belts should be replaced every 4 months. good news is all parts above should be under $5. dont let anyone tell you that you need a power drive assy, that usually isnt the case. good luck!!!

Kenmore direct drive will no longer self-propell

There may also be a reset button. If the brushes get stuck the unit can shut off power to the brushes to keep a total melt down from occurring. The reset button should return power in these types of vacuums.
