Motherboard replacement vs. New Computer

I have HP Pavilion a405n that I have figured out the motherboard has gone bad. Does anyone know how much a new motherboard will cost? Or would it be cheaper to purchase a new computer? I don't need anything fancy just something to get to the internet and to check emails.

Depends upon the mother board chip specification the price will vary, you have to explore the market for the price

How do I change a motherboard on my hp pavilion elite model m9650f?

Some HP and Dell desktop computers motherboards and cases are not the standard design and so cannot be modified by changing the motherboard for a non-HP one as it wont fit.

If you are going to change the motherboard on such a machine for a retail bought board then you may as well replace the case at the same time and re-build a new computer from the HP parts.

Changing your motherboard will in effect 'de-brand' your computer anyway as all that makes it HP or whatever in terms of hardware is the BIOS software on the motherboard.

Please rate if this helped you.

Replaced motherboard &hard drive in hp pavilion, now it will not recognize reovery cd

Replacing major hardware in a computer makes it a whole new computer. The motherboard is the operative part here that is causing your problem. When you replace a motherboard it becomes a new machine entirely. It won't recognize the recovery CD because it doesn't recognize your computer as the same machine it was loaded on. You will have to buy a new copy of windows to put on your computer.

Sounds like a component has gone bad on the computer. If you have a dedicated video card, I'd replace that first. Otherwise, it's likely the motherboard has gone bad and needs replaced. If this is the case, it's going to be just as expensive to replace the board as it would be to get a newer system.

Try the display on a different PC. The on board video may be defective, if so you will need to buy a new video card. Check to see what type you need. Good luck. I hope this helps...Have a good day.

I updated my BIOS on an HP Pavilion a430n now it wont boot up, the computer starts with the fans running on high. There isn't a boot screen or anything just blank. Help!

Sorry for some bad news, but unless you know someone who would know how to unbrick your motherboard from a bad bios flash.. its gone. They recently came out with new boards that have protected firmware, if anything like this were to happen it would auto reflash the original bios to the board. Hope this helps :-S

My HP Pavilion a1050y won't boot up.

So you've checked the supply, but you didn't replace it, right? Sounds to me like that's your culprit. It's not able to supply the current to run the processor (the biggest draw) and the output is dropping too low to run the system. A new supply should get you running again.

Hp Pavilion 763n won't startup light on fan on cpu not running

The most common issue is a portion of the power supply has gone bad (power supplies provide +5, +12, -5, and -12 vdc). Otherwise, the motherboard may need replacing. Try finding a spare power supply from a friend and hook it up to see if everything runs fine before purchasing one (about $40-50). If the power supply doesn't fix it, it could be the CPU (although I believe the CPU fan would still run) or any portion of the motherboard.

I have an HP Pavilion a1777c with a blank monitor

If the computer is starts up normally other than the no-video problem (that is, you hear all the normal sounds from the computer and the usual Windows startup music), then you probably do need a new video card. According to HP's spec page for the motherboard used, you'll need a PCI-E video card. Don't confuse this with a regular PCI card which has a different connector.

The spec page also says the board has integrated graphics. so you could remove any video card that's been installed and try booting with the built-in video. If everything else is working properly you can use that until you get a new expansion video card.

If the trouble is that the computer's not booting at all even though it's coming on, you'll need to figure out why. This might be a memory or video problem, although these usually cause some beep code if the motherboard gets into its POST (power on self-test). If nothing at all happens, this is often the sign of a bad power supply, processor chip or system board.

Bad Motherboard

The motherboard can be a bit tricky if you have no experience.
you will need to spend about $150 on a new board and may have to replace other components too.
It's not very practical as the system uses that last generation of computer components so a new machine would be in your best interest upgrade wise for newer games and media cards.
