Question about Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II Film Scanner

Open Question

Minolta 5400 II doesn't initialize - Hello, I have read thru various forums, but haven't found similar problem yet. My KM stops responding during initialization phase (Vuescan)/throws Error 4 in DimageScan SW. I've tried Ctrl Shift I as well but to no avail. It looks like something's wrong with door or with mechanism - when I insert tray holder into the scanner and then turn KM on, it removes tray out, but motor never stops and door keeps open. I can close door manually, but scanner won't initialize then. Have someone met such problem? What could this be related to? PS - I have opened scanner and looked for anything obvious like loose cable or contact, but I'm no expert in this and everything seems ok to me. thanks, mahdi

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

If the door to the scanner is actually closed, or the film holder is stuck on it you may have to press the door and film holder in slightly, then let the film holder out while holding the door in. If the door is not actually stuck on the film slider then you should be able to convince the scanner to push the film holder out by turning off the slider and turning it back on again without the software on.

SOURCE: The Negative Holder is stuck

In this case what you can do is : 1) Uninstall the Scanner Driver Software from your PC 2) Check All the cables of the scanner are properly connected.Check both DC terminal and USB. 3) Restart the PC 4) Restart the Scanner (Switch Off and the switch On after 1 Minute) 5) Install the Scanner Software Driver in PC and check.
If the problem persists then you can open the Negetive holder but for that take the help of the following link i have given below. Click on the link and a pdf document will open in which you can find detailed description of the scanner and procedure to open the Negetive Holder.

I have the 5400 II and have had similar problem. I found out, that it is essential, that the film/slide holder is clean and have a smooth surface. Specially on the edge where it touches the plain bearings. I have lubricated the whole holder with acid-free silicone, wich over time made the scanner work perfectly.

Will this scanner work on Vista or must I use in on a computer that has XP? How do I get it to work with Vista? Would it be easier if I got Windows 7?

You have to replace the original Konica Minolta driver with the custom one I have created below. Here are the detailed steps.

1) Install the Konica Minolta XP software in Vista/Win7.
2) Plug in your DImage Scanner into a USB port and turn it on with the door closed. It will detect and install the original Konica Minolta Driver.
3) Create an empty folder on you harddrive (for instance go to my computer, double click on the c: drive, then right click and create a new folder named newminolta).
4) Open windows notepad and copy the following into it:

18. The above driver should relink virtually all known Minolta scanners (USB/SCSI/Firewire) to the Windows TWAIN driver so it will work with the legacy Minolta software.

Need drivers for Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III to work with Windows 7 64-bits

I used this solution from KainAnderson
1) Install the Konica Minolta XP software in Win 7.
2) Plug in your DImage Scanner into a USB port and turn it on with the door closed. It may detect and install the original Konica Minolta Driver.
3) Create an empty folder on you harddrive (for instance go to my computer, double click on the c: drive, then right click and create a new folder named newminolta).
4) Open windows notepad and copy the following into it:

; scanners.inf -- Test Vista Minolta Film Drivers
;
;
; To remove this driver and install the original
; manufacturer's driver, go into Device Manager,
; open Imaging devices, then click on the scanner name
; with the right mouse button and choose Uninstall.

Need km 5400 scan elete driver for my windows vista computer

Bill,

I use VueScan from Hamrick Software (http://www.hamrick.com/) with excellent results. The learning curve is steep but it's so far the only solution, baring a dual boot machine with an XP option.

DS_Dual4easy software for VISTA operating system?

1) Install the Konica Minolta XP software in Vista/Windows 7.
2) Plug in your DImage Scanner into a USB port and turn it on with the door closed. It will detect and install the original Konica Minolta Driver.
3) Create an empty folder on you harddrive (for instance go to my computer, double click on the c: drive, then right click and create a new folder named newminolta).
4) Open windows notepad and copy the following into it:

; scanners.inf -- Test Vista Minolta Film Drivers
;
;
; To remove this driver and install the original
; manufacturer's driver, go into Device Manager,
; open Imaging devices, then click on the scanner name
; with the right mouse button and choose Uninstall.
