Question about Dayton (3E386) Heater

1 Answer

I purchased a 30yr old home with a garage heater and the internal wiring was totally messed up. It is a “Utility” brand by “Zero-Climate” out of Hayward, Ca. The model on it is “50 UF-5″. It is a natural gas unit with a fan. It has a gas valve, and appears to have heat limit and maybe time delay devices in the inside of the unit. I can get the pilot and the fan to operate but no main gas. I think the internal wiring got hosed up by the previous owner. Also, the 110v/24v xformer seems new and the voltages out of it are ok. Any ideas where I can find the original internal wiring schematic for this? Thanks for any help- Norm nrbrand@q.com

My garage door opener opens on it own.

hi, this seems like a relay problem. internal relays in the control unit can get old and start connecting and disconnecting automatically causing the garage to open randomly. especially if you are in a high humidity climate.

You can either replace the control unit or send it to an electronics repair shop to replace the relays inside the control unit for you.

Heater dont stay lit

I had this problem with a different brand. What was happening was that the wiring to the room where I used it could only support 2000 watts. The heater had an internal circuit breaker. When I turned on my exercise bicycle in that room I was trying to get 2200 watts. I always turned on the bicycle first and that took 700 watts plus the overhead light and so on. Thus when I turned on the heater, as it used up more and more wattage its internal circuit breaker shut off before the circuit breaker in the breaker box. That may not be your problem. This house is forty years old and this "study", the purpose that it was used for by the previous owners must have never reached 2000 watts total. Unfortunately I did. So now I wear a sweatshirt down there at first and take it off when I'm starting to sweat from the exertion of riding the bike. The heater never gets turned on.

Hi I have an old school (30yr approx) vulcan gas heater works brilliantly but the glass has gotten very sooty (blackened) can I dismantle to clean & how??

if the glass is sooty then cleaning it will not solve the problem , its not burning right causing the soot , needs to be serviced by a gas fitter.

Look this tells me that you should not be a heater repair person for one. Honestly these heaters are called milk house heaters and can be purchased all day long at Home Depot for 19 dollars, please purchase you a new one. Do not attempt any more repairs please, for your own health buy a new one!!

How to wire three-phase heater -model-berner mark 1 56e i have 220&110 the heater has three wires blk.rd.bl.

If this is in a home or garage you can not wire three phase as residential wiring does not have three phase, commercial buildings have three phase. Not saying it is not possible to get three phase to the house, but this could be quite costly. My suggestion is to purchase a 220 volt heater. Do not destroy the packaging it came in so you can pack it up and return it. Sorry for the bad news.

Installing a Dayton G73

How many amps is your service? And what gauge wire did you use for the heater?
If your service is only 40amps that is your problem. You don't have enough amps for the heater and the rest of your house, you will have to upgrade your service.
